Hypertensives unresponsive to multiple BP medications showed substantial reductions in ambulatory blood pressure after 12 weeks of moderate intensity aerobic exercise (3x/week, 20-40 min, 50-70% VO2max).
They also increased VO2max by 5 ml/kg/min.

Who would've thought it!? 😄
In all seriousness, we have a huge role to play in getting COPD patients exercising as much as possible as soon as possible. The benefits (of which are huge and extensive) far outweigh the risks by some distance.

Everyone eats every day.
Only some exercise.
This is why everyone wants to focus on nutrition to modify cardiovascular risk
And is less interested in exercise.
The answer is both.
You can't compensate with one for the other.
The most concerning legacy from the pandemic would be leaving millions of adults not only with ongoing symptoms and reduced quality of life, but also with physical inactivity – the largest risk factor for future long-term conditions and premature mortality

The AHA gets it! RT is an effective form of exercise to counteract the risk of vascular disease!

Taking people from anxious and deconditioned to well informed, regular exercisers is always a privilege to be part of! #exercisephysiology#cardiacrehab
Exactly this! The benefits hugely outweigh the risks by some distance. We should be making every effort to get our patients moving more and exercising as much as we can without unnecessary or over-cautious barriers 💪🏼😀 #exercisephysiology#exerciseismedicine#exerciseworks
True! The number of times our applications have returned with concerns over the risks of acute exercise-related events (usually < 1 in 10,000 or lower) is nuts!
The long-term risk reduction trumps those concerns by a WIDE margin!
Clinical exercise in management of chronic disease is essentially manipulating the physiology of the patient through active exercise. Cancer, CVD, MetS, sarcopenia, osteoporosis; even anxiety, depression and Alzheimers - clinical exercise is about manipulating the endocrine, cardiovascular, respiratory, immune, neuromuscular and skeletal systems. The best term to encompass this is "exercise physiology" and AEPs are the most appropriate allied health professionals to assess the physical fitness of patients, prescribe tailored exercise programs and monitor the patient's exercise responses and adaptations.
It is inconceivable that the knowledge and skills required of an AEP could be simply incorporated by another medical/health professional within their scope of practice.

'Only one out of five adolescents and adults met the recommended combined aerobic and MSA guidelines...'
We really aren't doing well with this are we? We need large scale intervention and proactivity or it's not going to improve.
#OriginalResearch: physical activity guidelines 📈
What is the worldwide prevalence of meeting the WHO exercise guidelines for both aerobic & muscle-strengthening activity?
How do socio-demographic factors play into this?

More data to suggest blanket exercise restriction in HCM may not be warranted. Patient selection is important but in this population vigorous exercise did not increase risk of cardiac events. That’s before considering the beneficial effects of exercise! https://t.co/KKzdDFgV2M
