The Benedictines of Mary, Queen of the Apostles, now established at St Mary’s Abbey, Colwich, England, are a young but rapidly expanding traditional Benedictine community whose very growth has driven them into a position of acute financial need. Their move into this large, historic abbey was prompted by the sheer number of vocations — especially from Europe — and the constraints of remaining in the United States alone, yet the opportunity they have embraced comes with considerable costs. As they grow, their future in England will depend not only on the continued generosity of those already close to them, but on the emergence of a much wider circle of benefactors of individuals, families, and trusts willing to underwrite this growth so that a flourishing, orthodox, contemplative house can take firm root for the long term.
