Selected species of Dimetrodon.
Here are various sketches showing some species of Dimetrodon, which was a quite diverse genus during the Early Permian. The genus includes about a dozen of species
A shake-up of the dinosaur family tree! Rhabdodontids are not ornithopods. They are ceratopsians.
There were horned dinosaurs in Europe! As shown by a new fossil of Ajkaceratops from Hungary!

Despite being ill I think this first formation #paleostream of the year turned out pretty good.
The Upper Elliot Formation from the early Jurassic of South Africa is an important piece for our understanding of sauropod evolution but beyond that it's just a really cool assemblage
Remnant
It is now early Pliocene, Otodus megalodon have become a rare sight, let alone in great size. A vacuum in the marine ecosystem will be created in the wake of megalodon extinction. A void that Carcharodon carcharias, the great white sharks, ready to fill.
@realLPBeria Something crazy I learned recently is that some space probes apparently contained refined whale oil in some of their mechanisms (I think for their cameras, but I can’t quite recall).
@dennismhogan A fact I mention often is that the biomass of whales killed in the 20th century outweighs the calculated biomass of all living wild mammals.
I feel like artificially-lit deep sea #paleoart is a unique artifact of our time where photography/video of the deepest parts of the ocean is fairly commonplace and accessible
Manipulonyx, a new alvarezsaur with really fascinating hands! The condition of the fingers isn't that unusual for the clade but the OSTEODERMS on the hand are new!

You know what, lets make this easier!
Below are all the formation pieces done this year, what were your favorites this year, which ones are you looking forward to!
Bugti Hills, Bahariya, Rio do Rasto, Gigantopithecus assemblage...
@TM9380 Do you know how the decay rate was originally calculated? Was is by using the decay rate of other isotopes with a known half life to verify, or can the rate be directly measured in a sample?
Continuing my exploration of Jurassic paleobotany, this time with ferns of the family Dipteridaceae. Fossil taxa like Clathropteris have a really interesting shape that for me is pretty difficult to get right.
#paleobotany
Another one of those scary wet things (fish artists, I don't know how you do it) from the Kem Kem waterways - Aidachar. While not very well known, it is part of the same order as the much more famous Xiphactinus.

Result from the Irdin Manha Formation #paleostream.
While you might never heard it's name you most likely have heard of some of the fauna from here. First and foremost Andrewsarchus.
The fossils were so far largely excavated by the amnh in northern China (Inner Mongolia) during
Someone shared this photo of a Black Bear crossing through a swamp in Southern Florida and it makes me want to see that with one of Florida's many fossil cats like,Smilodon, Xenosmilus Rhizosmilodon, or even Homotherium.
