This week a self-described "influential think tank", the IPPR, advised that the "UK must seek EU membership”. Charlotte Gill was not surprised to find it was funded by George Soros and the European Climate Foundation. https://t.co/EjIyLuMSrV
This is interesting. I’ve said before I found last year’s Mass badly organised – impossible to get press credentials so I flew out to Rome not knowing if I’d get into the basilica and basically had to jump over barriers. The Altar of the Throne was a terrible location that couldn’t accommodate the congregation. That wasn’t the organisers’ fault but the slow -motion rubrics were creaky and the music very dreary. The next day I went to a TLM in Rome that was superior in every way. It was one of several in the city that now take place in far more relaxed circumstances than under Francis. Yes, it *is* outrageous that traditionalist pilgrims are treated so badly while the LGBT crowd are indulged and of course I think there should be regular Tridentine Masses in St Peter’s. But the anti-TLM lobby is very powerfully entrenched in the Vatican and the Secretary of State, who rules the city-state, is a Novus Ordo fanatic. Pope Leo’s support for the status quo is disappointing but things would be worse under Francis: I can think of at least one TLM in Rome that would be cancelled if we were still living under the Bergoglian dictatorship. My instinct is that Leo was very annoyed by the episcopal antics of the SSPX and this means that he’s less well disposed to trads generally, which isn’t fair. Meanwhile the abuse that non-SSPX trads hurl at him finds its way back to him. I’m a fine one to talk, you might say, but Francis was criminally abusing his position with the complicity of the media, which can’t be said of Pope Leo. We live in confusing times.
Very important to read and understand this article in the Guardian this morning.
The EU are still demanding the same things, but are looking to help the PM get a good news story and punt the bad news for six months.

Catholic Hereditary Prince Alois of Liechtenstein has vetoed a bill that would have legalized abortion in the Catholic-majority country! The decision marks the first time Prince Alois has exercised his veto during his reign.
This line, which Baroness Winterton of Doncaster has used in the Lords today, is simply a lie. I feel sorry for Labour junior ministers, who are being sent out to repeat pre-written lines they do not understand, but it doesn't change the fact that it's a lie.
The EU's role in the collapse of the UK car industry
"Output peaked at 1.92 m vehicles during 1972, our last year before entering the EEC. During our first decade in the EEC and its Customs Union output slumped to 868,000 by 1982"

The UK government is spending £534 bn or 60% more this year than in 2019-20. So stop all the nonsense about past cuts. If the government cannot deliver good services for £1419 bn it needs to find better Ministers and senior managers.
The PM has said IPPs are set to end, but when will this happen and what’s the plan? #IPPScandal

The entire system of ad hoc judges at the ICJ—where a party which doesn't have a judge of its nationality can appoint a temporary one—is based on the assumption that states choose judges that will vote for them. It's not an attack on judicial independence to point this out.
If the poster wasn’t a Protestant he’d presumably know that the ICKSP’s baroque style, perhaps a little over the top, is similar to that of many TLM celebrations. The Latin Mass Society used to be known as the ‘Low Mass Society’ because it favoured simpler ceremonial (and in the old days, as I saw myself, used to make an almighty mess of complicated rubrics). Anyway, both are fine. I personally prefer Low Tridentine Masses because they’re so much shorter.
Margaret Thatcher: “Let me give you my vision: A man's right to work as he will, to spend what he earns, to own property, to have the state as servant and not as master. These are the British inheritance.”
Exclusive: The Cabinet is split over Britain’s future relationship with Europe after the Prime Minister opened the door to Britain rejoining the European Union, The i Paper can reveal.
A narrow majority of Andy Burnham's ministers now back a return to bloc, but they are divided over a second referendum, the timing, and whether Labour risks refighting the toxic Brexit wars.
Most ministers are understood to be coming round to the view that a second referendum will be unavoidable, if only to stop a future Conservative or Reform UK government from reversing the decision.
“The EU needs to know this is what Britain really wants," one source said familiar with the discussions said.
The Prime Minister is expected to use the forthcoming UK-EU summit in November as a springboard for a national debate about Britain's place in Europe.
