"Those in the #US government who claim that the poor state of Cuba’s power grid is our government’s fault are lying to hide the crime they are committing against the people of #Cuba.
Let’s look at the facts:
Presidential memoranda NSPM-5 of 2017 and 2026 establish financial and commercial strangulation and persecution as the core of the suffocation campaign against Cuba. The economic war was reinforced by the re-inclusion of the island on the unilateral list of so-called state sponsors of terrorism in January 2021 and again in January 2025. They have turned us into a “high-risk” country for any transaction, business deal, or foreign investment.
In 2023, a European company canceled the sale of spare parts for power generation turbines out of fear of U.S. sanctions, even though Cuba had the financing.
In 2025, a company from a friendly country denied technical assistance to commission a critical component of the Cienfuegos thermoelectric plant because it contained more than 10% of U.S.-origin components.
Technicians from companies contracted to provide assistance have decided not to travel to Cuba, even after arriving at their departure airport, due to threats and pressure.
Executive Order 14380 issued by the U.S. President on January 29, 2026, authorized the imposition of punitive tariffs on imports from countries that, directly or indirectly, supply oil to Cuba.
Before the energy blockade, oil tankers transporting fuel to Cuba were threatened with fines, asset freezes, exclusion from the global financial system, and even interception on the high seas and confiscation of their cargo.
On top of all this, 40 foreign banks have refused to do business with Cuba, blocking 140 bank transfers, many of them related to payments for the purchase of solar or wind technology.
Facts speak louder than words.
The Cuban electrical system is not a victim of neglect. It is a victim of a brutal war. Those who deliberately wage this war are fully aware of the harm it inflicts on the population and hide behind a facade of lies and propaganda."
@extremearturo Nice piece! Small detail: the last excerpt notes the danger of a successful Cuban example holding back austerity in Latin America, not the U.S. itself. And the record is clear: U.S. felt secure enough in smothering Cuba's example to launch repression and dirty wars for decades.

#Toronto rises for #Cuba and against the criminal U.S. blockade: supporters and Cuban residents, friends all, are raising their voices against threats to the Island’s sovereignty and rejecting the spurious accusations against #RaúlCastro.

@Southcom Naval Station Guantanamo is Cuban territory that was leased to the US in a forced agreement in 1903 w/ no expiration date.
It has illegally housed prisoners for years who have received no trial nor charged with a crime.
Cuba has been asking for the territory back for decades
Ko Tinmaung, a Toronto-based Rohingya activist, has been released after more than 96 hours in Israeli detention following Israel’s hijacking of the Global Sumud Flotilla and the abduction of its civilian participants.
His testimony is horrifying.
He says he was beaten in a dark room by more than five people, kicked, punched, tasered in multiple places, and handcuffed so tightly that the restraints cut into his wrists and restricted blood flow. He says he still needs treatment for concussion-like injuries.
He also says he witnessed other detainees with broken ribs, head wounds, blood from their ears, eye injuries, broken noses and broken teeth. Most gravely, he alleges sexual assaults, including people being tasered on their genitals.
Tinmaung’s testimony also exposes the racial dimension of Israeli violence. He says he was mocked as “Ahmed”, assaulted further, laughed at because of his skin colour, and treated as if his passport had no value because he was brown.
This was a civilian-led humanitarian mission carrying food, aid and basic supplies to Gaza. So where is Canada? Where are the human rights organisations? Where are the global leadership councils, the moral authorities, the professional defenders of accountability?
Silence now is not neutrality. It is complicity.

I am guilty.
Guilty of loving the Cuban people.
Guilty of believing Cuban children deserve medicine instead of sanctions.
Guilty of believing that trying to save lives should not be treated like a crime.
@medeabenjamin No good deed goes unpunished in the upside-down/inside-out Trump/Rubio/Hegseth universe.
In the real world Medea and Hasan are in excellent company supporting Cuban children against the monsters who want to suffocate them. For example, Silvio and Chico: https://t.co/SCtPpvZUVY
BREAKING: Tens of thousands rally in Havana in defense of Raúl Castro.
Cubans are accusing the US of using the indictment as "pretext" for a military attack. They say they don't want a conflict, but they're willing to fight to defend the country.
