MGI's Elizabeth Heath-Heckman recently authored a PNAS commentary highlighting new research which reveals that Hydroides elegans—a marine tubeworm—relies on the immune signaling protein MyD88 to undergo metamorphosis in response to bacterial cues.
Is bacterial induced metamorphosis an adaptation to escaping pathogens?

First three weeks of my PhD have been filled with lots of fun cloning, plasmid making and Ciona electroporations in the Zeller lab! Best feeling is when your restriction enzyme digest works and you get bands!! Time to cut them out ✂️
