As Africans and lovers of good football, we support and cheer for Cape Verde to beat and eliminate Argentina from the World Cup today in what will be known as a historic upset.
Let’s go Blue Sharks 🦈
🇨🇩 The DRC's Leopards Bring Home $13.5 Million After Historic World Cup Campaign
By reaching the Round of 32, the Leopards are expected to earn approximately US$13.5 million from FIFA, one of the biggest financial rewards in the history of Congolese football.
Here's how it's calculated:
US$11 million for reaching the Round of 32 Plus US$2.5 million in preparation funding awarded to every qualified nation
Total: US$13.5 million
The money is paid to FECOFA, ( @FecofaRdc ) not directly to players. It can be used for player bonuses, technical staff, youth football, academies, infrastructure, and the long-term development of the game.
More importantly, this tournament changed Congolese football forever.
For the first time since the country's World Cup debut in 1974, DR Congo advanced beyond the group stage, becoming the first Congolese team to reach the knockout rounds of a FIFA World Cup.
The Leopards may have left the tournament after a 2–1 defeat to England, but they also returned home with history, global recognition, and a financial boost that could help shape the next generation of Congolese football. 🇨🇩
Remembering Civil Rights activist Medgar Evers, on his birthday today.
In 1963, he was assassinated in the driveway outside of his home in Jackson, Mississippi, by avowed white supremacist Byron De La Beckwith who was convicted 30 years later.
66 years ago, the Democratic Republic of the Congo got their independence from Belgium. And the first Prime Minister Patrice Lumumba. The CIA and Belgium did not waste any time. They got rid of him by 1961. He was dead.. kidnapped and tortured and executed. All because he wanted to make his country fully independent and sovereign.. they accuse him of being a communist
Senegal really tried; we all know they were robbed in the last minutes of the match. But behind the scenes, we are unaware of what those players are going through.
Senegal's coach went unpaid for 5-6 months while managing the national team without a salary. The players received no bonuses due to the federation's poor management. Even in terms of food and nutrition, there was malnutrition in the camp at the World Cup because the food was unhealthy and unsuitable for athletes, forcing players to buy their own from shops and restaurants. This was part of bigger camp issues: a cheap hotel, financial problems (delayed bonuses), and poor federation management.
The players and staff were all affected. This was a show of resilience but woe to corruption in African football management.
Yoane Wissa at this World Cup:
-Scored DR Congo's first WC goal in 52 years
-That goal came vs. Portugal and earned his country their first-ever WC point
-Scored a brace to send Congo to their first-ever knockout stage
Did his country proud 🥲🇨🇩
