Gdzieś w 2019 roku oglądałem F1 w telewizji. Mój 6-letni wtedy syn zapytał mnie, komu kibicuję, o co właściwie chodzi w tym sporcie i dlaczego oglądam samochody jeżdżące w kółko.

Powiedziałem mu, że kibicuję takiemu młodemu kierowcy, Maxowi Verstappenowi, bo wydaje mi się, że coś z niego będzie.

No i się zaczęło.

Od tamtej pory jest wręcz psychofanem Verstappena i F1. Nie opuszcza kwalifikacji ani wyścigów. Byliśmy już kilka razy na żywo na Grand Prix F1. Później doszedł karting halowy, od czasu do czasu, symulator i ogromna pasja do ścigania.

I chyba najbardziej podoba mi się to, co przyszło razem z tą pasją.

Nie mam praktycznie żadnych problemów z zaganianiem go do nauki. Wie, że dobre wyniki w szkole są warunkiem kontynuowania szkółki kartingowej i wyjazdów na zawody.

Przy okazji uczy się przegrywać. Uczy się, że talent nie wystarczy i że żeby być w czymś naprawdę dobrym, trzeba włożyć w to mnóstwo pracy. Szlifuje charakter, radzi sobie z presją i poznał masę ludzi z całej Polski, z którymi łączy go ta sama zajawka.

A wszystko zaczęło się od jednego przypadkowego pytania 6-latka podczas oglądania F1 w telewizji.

Teraz pozostaje mi tylko znaleźć sposób, żeby równie skutecznie zarazić jakąś pasją drugiego syna

I find this entire situation extremely odd for a few reasons:

1) Yesterday, Jacob made 7 posts in a thread at exactly 8:04pm.

You cannot schedule thread posts, you must write or copy paste each one. Assuming he started posting at exactly 8:04:01 and copy pasted them all, that's one post every 8 seconds.

2) Despite Jacob having no prior X posts, somehow his original post got 124 million views.

3) Less than 24 hours later, Jacob is scheduled on every major media station warning the public that AI is more dangerous than nuclear weapons.

If you're a 3 letter agency preparing the narrative for a potential cyber-attack, it would look very similar to this.

These psychological operations are called predictive programming; where you expose the public to plausible narratives, so when they happen the public accepts the new reality as fact, without question.

Very suspicious, no? 🤔

The words "AI slop" were coined to describe an instinctive revulsion.

But the people using don't know exactly what it is that's bothering them.

It's not the quality of the visuals. It's not the ease of creation. And it's not any sort of style cue.

It's the lack of artistic vision.

What's artistic vision? It's the combination of two things:

- An idea in my mind that I want you to see in the way that I see it.

- A plan for how I'm going to get it across to you.

Right now, an AI can't have artistic vision, because it has no object model, so it can't have an idea, and it has no theory of mind for you or anyone else, so it can't make a plan for how it's going to show you the idea that it doesn't have.

So when you tell an AI "make me a short film about a cat playing basketball" you get slop. Lots of pictures and sound, no artistic vision.

But when spend thirty-seven hours alternately banging your head against the desk in frustration, and wrangling the AI until it executes your exact idea and your exact plan, then what comes out will have artistic vision, because you supplied it.

Someday, AI will be able to have a true artistic vision of its own. On that day, it will be a person.

Until that day, AI is a terrible artist, but a wonderful brush.
