A BRIDGE OVER BALASON

In October 2025, when the original bridge over Balason river at Dudhey was washed away, Darjeeling MP Raju Bista wrote to then Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, requesting that a Bailey Bridge be constructed to restore connectivity.

Dudhey bridge is vital, as it connects the Mirik region to the plains.

Yet, CM Mamata Banerjee turned a complete deaf ears to the request and chose not to reach out to the Army. Instead she constructed a hume-pipe bridge. Such hume-pipe bridges are used in slow moving and less water areas, whereas Balason is a mighty river that originates in Darjeeling hills. It carries the water from multiple smaller rivulets – and travels with a lot of force and speed.

So, building a hume-pipe bridge over such a mighty river was stupid – but TMC Chief was known to take such stupid decisions. In the very first rain of monsoon this year, on the night of June 18-19, 2026 the hume-pipe bridge was washed away, once again severing the connection between Mirik and rest of the state.

Darjeeling MP Raju Bista once again reached out to the Chief Minister, only this time its the BJP Government, and thankfully Suvendu Adhikari is the CM and not Mamata Banerjee.

Within 5-days of the hume-pipe bridge being washed away, a walkable Bailey Bridge was constructed by the Indian Army, and on Day-19, today a motorable Bailey Bridge has been completed, which will be open for traffic from tomorrow evening.

This bridge not only symbolizes the change in governance style, but also marks the priority of the government. We had a TMC government that refused to officially notify a disaster, and we now have a government that actually cares enough to get the bridge over Balason constructed in a timely manner.

We share our gratitude to Darjeeling MP Raju Bista for relentlessly pursuing, and CM Suvendu Adhikari for caring. Indian Army, PWD and others for constructing this vital link.

Also, you may want to read up on the Supreme Court order in S.R. Bommai v. Union of India (1994) case. The seminal case does emphasize judicial review of Article 356 proclamations, but allowed revival if validly imposed.

Your claim of "illegality at the root" (void ab initio) doctrine applies to invalid proclamations, not routine revocations.

Your core claim, that "the breach of 174(1) permanently invalidates the assembly", is not supported by constitutional text or precedents.

In fact, it was the breach under 174(1) that necessitated the Proclamation of President's Rule.

Article 356(1), allows the President to assume state functions if satisfied that governance cannot continue constitutionally.

Ironically, it was the Article 174 violation (which you have made the basis of your argument), that provided grounds for this, as it indicated a constitutional breakdown.

You may want to read the Original proclamation order dated Feb 13, 2025 first. The Hon' President didn't DISSOLVE Manipur Assembly, it was only suspended, and put under a state of "Suspended Animation".

Article 356(2) allows revocation at any time, reviving the suspended assembly and government without needing elections, as long as the assembly's five-year term (from 2022 to 2027) has not expired.

Revival of the assembly is constitutionally allowed because it was suspended, and not dissolved.

Article 174(1) is procedural and does not cause automatic dissolution.

Article 174(2)(b) allows dissolution only with parliamentary approval, which didn't happen

Article 172(1) gives a five-year term; Manipur Assembly is valid till 2027.

He is Sam Pepper, a well-known influencer in the UK.

He came to India on Diwali and fired a rocket toward a group of kids, hitting a little girl. Because it was livestreamed, he couldn’t delete the footage, and his followers openly criticised him for the reckless act and expressed concern for the child.

He later claimed that the girl had only a minor cut, that he paid for the hospital expenses, apologised, and that the matter was settled. He immediately left India after that. However, the truth is coming out now.

The girl did not suffer a minor cut but permanent damage to her left eye, full-thickness corneal injury with uveal tissue prolapse. She lost her eye because a gora streamer wanted to have “reckless fun.” The Indians who feel “ashamed as an Indian” the moment some gora experiences the slightest discomfort here should now see how many gora feel “ashamed as a British” for this.

Requesting @MEAIndia to take up this issue officially with the UK govt. This incident must have serious legal and financial repercussions for that influencer.

TOURISTS OR MENACE?? Lack of civics sense among tourists is astounding

"Today I witnessed a tourist openly peeing near the backside of Chowrasta. When I politely told him not to do it, he and his group started abusing me.

As a student I couldn’t argue with a whole group, so I recorded what I could. It’s sad how some people come to enjoy Darjeeling but end up disrespecting the very beauty they travel for.

We must speak up and protect our hills tourism should never be an excuse to destroy our home."
