We study how immune mechanisms affect physiological brain function & the onset of neurological diseases. @davalos.bsky.social these days

[Dr. Saba Valadkhan @SValadkhan]

Excited to share our new manuscript in @NatureMicrobiol uncovering a novel mechanism by which viruses orchestrate their survival in the host. We show that #HIV inherently induces the formation of a latent reservoir of viruses, guaranteeing its long-term survival 🧵 #HIVresearch

[Giulio Maria Pasinetti, MD, PhD @IcahnCMIN]

Findings by researchers @pryprk @palakmanchanda4 @DavalosLab, Gaurav Chopra, et al. show that excess fat in the brain’s resident immune cells, #Microglia, impairs their ability to combat disease. Learn More in @ImmunityCP 👉 https://t.co/7a0zNsZaH8

Thank you for giving life to our sketch Emma! Until next time!

[DrawImpacts @DrawImpacts]

A real pleasure collaborating with you and the team, @DavalosLab @pryprk — congratulations on the publication! Looking forward to future opportunities to work together again ✨

Emma Vidal brought our concept to life.
For more info about the cool science produced in the @chopralab and ours, that inspired our geeky illustration, please read the paper here: https://t.co/AUkpdSXBIg

Microglia: Super-heroine that had a DGAT2-blocking beverage (cans) so she could break the chains from lipid droplets holding her back (weights) & lift the amyloid load (beams) that trapped the neurons, thereby rescuing them in the aged Brain (City sign)! #NotTheCover @ImmunityCP

[Dimitrios Davalos & Lab @DavalosLab]

But blocking or reducing DGAT2 (using a cool new drug developed by @chopralab ) restores microglial phagocytosis of Aβ and thereby reduces plaque load and neuronal damage in a preclinical model of #Alzheimer’sDisease.

[Evi Paouri @EviPaouri]

Super proud to have been part of this work between the @chopralab and the @DavalosLab that is now published @ImmunityCP !!! Thank you @pryprk, Palak Manchanda, and all authors for this extraordinary collaboration!!!

[Dimitrios Davalos & Lab @DavalosLab]

@sciqst @ImmunityCP Thank you for your kind words! Please check out a paragraph in our discussion on exactly your question: how systemic complications are a serious consideration for manipulations of metabolic pathways in general and why we think DGAT2 may be different @chopralab is on this mission!

[Dimitrios Davalos & Lab @DavalosLab]

Why do the brain’s professional phagocytes stop clearing amyloid in Alzheimer’s disease? Can we restore microglial superpowers & rescue dying neurons in AD? YES, by stopping DGAT2-mediated lipid droplet formation! Check out our manuscript @ImmunityCP 👇🏼

@jonykipnis @ImmunityCP Thank you Jony! Gaurav Chopra and an entire village of folks in the @chopralab and mine deserve all the credit!

[Dimitrios Davalos & Lab @DavalosLab]

@OlegButovsky @ImmunityCP Thank you very much for your kind words @OlegButovsky! We are also very excited to see this through with Gaurav @chopralab and everyone involved with this project!

[Dimitrios Davalos & Lab @DavalosLab]

Tremendously grateful to an amazing team of lab members and collaborators including @pryprk , @EviPaouri , Palak Manchanda and Gaurav @chopralab and pretty much all Chopra and Davalos Lab members for the smooth teamwork @ClevelandClinic @CCLRI @PurdueUnivNews

Amazing new study @nature showing that fibrin drives lung inflammation and neuropathology in SARS-CoV-2 infection, and fibrin-targeting immunotherapy may represent a therapeutic intervention for patients with acute COVID-19 and long COVID! Congrats @AkassoglouLab & collaborators!
