“Dear E-REP Members,

In my message last month to E-REP membership, I discussed how we will be increasing our engagement with local community leaders and elected officials across Southwest Indiana regarding responsible growth for the region.

In late June, E-REP hosted meetings with officials in Warrick and Posey counties to listen to concerns, answer questions, and encourage a more informed conversation around data centers and responsible growth.

E-REP remains committed to continuing this dialogue across Southwest Indiana. E-REP has launched a new page on our website to provide fact-based information, address common questions and concerns, and serve as a resource for residents, businesses, and community leaders as these discussions continue.

Southwest Indiana is increasingly drawing interest from technology and data center companies, advanced manufacturers, infrastructure developers, and other emerging industries that could create jobs, broaden the tax base, lower utility bills, support infrastructure improvements, and strengthen long-term regional competitiveness.

As these opportunities emerge, communities deserve access to transparent, fact-based information and a forum for constructive dialogue about the future of our region.

This conversation is especially timely in Warrick County. On July 13, the Warrick County Area Plan Commission is expected to consider a proposed anti-data center ordinance. As written, the ordinance would create standards that are significantly more restrictive than what we are seeing in other counties competing for these same investments. If approved, the ordinance would effectively signal that data center investment is not welcome in Warrick County and may dampen conversations in the broader Evansville region.

Data centers and related technology infrastructure represent a once-in-a-generation chance to attract new investment, expand the tax base, support local infrastructure, create community benefits, and position Southwest Indiana for long-term competitiveness. These opportunities should be evaluated carefully and responsibly, but they should not be closed off through a rushed process that does not reflect wider stakeholder input, engagement, or proper vetting.

For that reason, we are asking E-REP members and regional stakeholders to contact the Warrick County Area Plan Commission and County Commissioners to respectfully request that the Area Plan Commission table the ordinance and engage stakeholders on the issue of data centers.

This request is not in opposition to local standards or responsible development. Rather, it would create time for residents, businesses, local governments, utilities, schools, workforce partners, and economic development leaders to better understand the facts, evaluate the potential impacts, and develop an approach that protects community interests while keeping Warrick County and Southwest Indiana competitive for future investment.

Any action taken by the Area Plan Commission on July 13 will serve as a recommendation to the Warrick County Commissioners, who are expected to make a final decision later in July. That makes this an important moment for the business community and regional stakeholders to speak up and make clear that the current ordinance should not move forward without wider input, engagement, and proper vetting.

Now had the FBI agent who testified in the preliminary hearing simply stated that someone had checked the security camera positioned directly above the bus stop and determined the bag came from Charlie’s detail, there would be no issue here.

But of course she didn’t do that. She instead claimed she had no idea why they stopped testing and then claimed she didn’t know who made the note, in HER notes, about the bag and other items belonging to Charlie’s team.

The police only ever pursuing evidence that confirms their original theory does not impress me. There’s nothing unfair about demanding thoroughness, transparency and accountability in the highest profile murder case since OJ Simpson.

Looks like Plainfield may finally have some competition for the title of Indiana's largest mosque.
