Happy and healthy coincidence: World Bicycle Day and World Running Day at the same time. Many reasons to celebrate both, today and for the rest of the year.
Honoured to be appointed as the UK’s next Ambassador to Djibouti, and to continue the excellent work of @BritAmbVinay in building a strong 🇬🇧 🇩🇯partnership. Delighted to be returning to Africa.

Today, we announced the first ever AUKUS pillar 2 signature project.
Backed by over £150M, our new weapons and sensors for undersea drones will secure the High North and Indo Pacific.
We’re full steam ahead on AUKUS.
This is our business as usual.
At #GreaterTogether LA, we’re bringing together the best of the 🇬🇧 and 🇺🇸 to drive investment, spark innovation and create opportunities on both sides of the Atlantic 👇
The UK is helping to contain the Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. We’re working with partners to support health workers, strengthen surveillance and improve access to care.
Global health threats require a global response.
Wherever there is war, civilians are caught in the middle.
Protecting civilians means children can live in safety and humanitarian workers can deliver aid to families in need.
The UK supports humanitarian diplomacy that delivers protection, access, and locally-driven solutions.
No one nation, organisation or person can tackle today’s global challenges alone.
We must co-operate, collect together and coordinate.
That’s what our Global Partnerships Conference is all about.

I’m in Kigali, Rwanda, where I just spoke at the opening of @NEISAfrica’s Nuclear Energy Innovation Summit for Africa #NEISA2026, together with 🇷🇼 President @PaulKagame, 🇹🇿 President @SuluhuSamia, and 🇹🇬 President @FEGnassingbe.
Africa needs more energy, with around 600 million people still lacking access to electricity. The interest in nuclear power is real: about half of all @IAEAorg newcomer countries are African, and 13 are actively pursuing nuclear power programmes.
Rwanda specifically is among the countries looking to nuclear energy as part of the solution, with plans for nuclear to contribute more than 60% of its energy mix by 2050. I handed over to President @PaulKagame the Integrated Nuclear Infrastructure Review (INIR), a report by the IAEA that assesses the country’s progress in developing the infrastructure needed for a safe and secure and sustainable nuclear power programme.
Africa’s energy future will be built by Africans, and the IAEA is ready to continue supporting countries across the continent, from infrastructure development and capacity building to new technologies such as SMRs. Recent agreements between the IAEA and financial institutions such as the @WorldBankGroup will be key in turning ambition into reality.
Thanks to @RAEB_Rwanda President @SinaZerbo for organising #NEISA2026 and this important conversation on Africa’s energy future.
Important step forward for Rwanda’s nuclear energy plans.
Together with @RwandaInfra’s @Dr_JimmyGasore, signed an @IAEAorg/@RwandaGov agreement to strengthen cooperation on integrating nuclear energy into Rwanda’s energy mix, including SMRs.
The agreement covers support on energy planning, infrastructure development, training, stakeholder engagement, financing and capacity building as 🇷🇼 moves forward with its plans.

Please watch in full. The statistics about violence against women and girls should be shocking to all of us. The consequences for our societies, our economies, and our democracies, are fundamental.
Following months of dedicated UK diplomacy, 46 countries meet today at the Council of Europe to agree critical reforms modernising the way the ECHR deals with migration - supporting the UK to take firm action on border security.
It is the work we do internationally which makes us stronger at home.
The UK is working with 45 other countries from across Europe to tackle migration challenges the right way - together, and in line with international law.
In this volatile world, His Majesty's Government will pursue foreign policy based on a calm assessment of the national interest:
→ supporting Ukraine
→ strengthening European security
→ promoting long-term peace in the Middle East
→ upholding our commitment to NATO
