Author, photographer, martial artist, poker player, cigar box guitar maker, all purpose generalist. My #thriller The Whisper Garden--will be back soon.
My publisher and I have officially parted ways.
It was an amicable split, we were never a great match.
The Whisper Garden will be back, but I have not yet decided if I want to self publish, or seek an agent and go a more traditional route.
...in New Orleans. Nobody bats an eye when some people talk to the dead–after all, they listen at least as well as most of the living...being long dead has not stopped Marie Laveau from receiving a steady stream of visitors

@Nogdala@briangamble_v1 It looks full of algae. (Which was the complaint that started the process)
The leaks are only detectable by the amount of water that has to be pumped in to keep it filled, so how would we know?
@Nogdala@briangamble_v1 I agree there shouldn’t be a handshake for real assets.
But so far all evidence points to this being a ‘I called the guy who did my pools’ based contract.
Would you agree that would be bad if true?
@Nogdala@briangamble_v1 Did we see it get fixed?
We saw work being done on it. One of the issues was leaking, and maybe this coating will help with that.
But since the stated reason for the work was the gross appearance f the algae, that hasn't been touched because they did nothing to the filtration.
@Nogdala@briangamble_v1 Normally, a job would be advertised, then yeh, if only one company bids they get it, whether or not they are qualified. But that advertisement should be a matter of public record. So far that isn't what has been presented to the public.
@Nogdala@briangamble_v1 To be clear, I don't have an issue with it--if it was actually bid. If it wasn't bid, it seems corrupt, though at a level of corruption that would have had someone lose their job 30 years ago, but that doesn't seem to mean much these days.
@Nogdala@briangamble_v1 So what you're saying is that this must have followed a normal bid process, because that's just how things work.
In other words, your proof is "trust me bro"
Meanwhile, because it is a controversy, it would be easy for the administration to just show the bids.
@Nogdala@briangamble_v1 And yeh, cost overruns are common... but when this project was announced on April 23, the claim was it would cost between 1.5 and 2 million.
@Nogdala@briangamble_v1 I ask because I've looked, and can't find nothing to show that there were multiple, detailed bids.
I also don't see much evidence that the company did much to fix the underlying issues that were the problem in the first place.
I was wondering if anyone had done the math.
The next question would be who made the call to try the peroxide. Was it the same company that painted the pool?
Someone in the administration saying “just dump bleach in it?”
Y’all, not to be a huge nerd but for the reflecting pool you would need a minimum of about 8,000 liters of 12% hydrogen peroxide to reach the 50 parts per million concentration to kill algae…
Is this what happens when you have 0 scientists in your administration?
@_GirlSay I think the oddest argument repeated in this thread is that a novel whose plot depends on speculative advances in technology based on real world scientific developments and the consequences of that experimentation is somehow not scifi.
@Beno10_MFC Depends on his starting point.
The extreme case would be close enough to the pole that his eastward walk would be a circle around the pole. In that case, he’d come back to where he started walking east.
A little further away, he’d walk a 1/2 circle and be much further away.
@MatthewARein@atrupar 16 ounces of 80/20 ground beef: nine bucks for about 1100 calories.
11ounce bag of tortilla chips: about 3.50 for about 1500 calories.
If price per calorie is a factor—like when struggling to make ends meet—the chips are more nutrition per dollar.
@Avabelly__ The hard part is the time limit
Land? Good luck finding the right parcel, contacting the seller and even getting a call back. Gold? Good luck getting to a vendor with 40 pounds in stock
Heck, trying to spend it on anything in 1 hour will flag you as a money laundering terrorist.
@messedupfoods The two ideal scenarios
1. The business pays a good wage to start with.
2. Everyone agrees to the social contract where it is known that the business doesn’t pay so it’s up to the customer
Because too many people try to shift the blame and not pay, we keep having this discussion
