For my British and European friends who are "shocked" and "surprised", here are 10 reasons you didn't see this coming.

Read this short post and then read the replies from our American friends who will confirm what I'm saying.

1. Americans love their country and want it to be the best in the world. America is a nation of people who conquered a continent. They love strength. They love winning. Any leader who appeals to that has an automatic advantage.

2. Unlike Europeans, Americans have not accepted managed decline. They don't have Net Zero here, they believe in producing their own energy and making it as cheap as possible because they know that their prosperity depends on it.

3. Prices for most basic goods in the US have increased rapidly and are sky high. What the official statistics say about inflation and the reality of people's lives are not the same.

4. Unlike you, Americans do not believe in socialism. They believe in meritocracy. They don't care about the super rich being super rich because they know that they live in a country where being super rich is available to anyone with the talent and drive to make it. They don't resent success, they celebrate it.

5. Americans are the most pro-immigration people in the world. Read that again. Seriously, read it again. Americans love an immigrant success story. They want more talented immigrants to come to America. But they refuse to accept people coming illegally. They believe in having a border.

6. Americans are sensitive about racial issues and their country's imperfect history. They believe that those who are disadvantaged by the circumstances of their birth should be given the opportunity to succeed. What they reject, however, is the idea that in order to address the errors of the past new errors must be made. DEI is racist. They know it and they reject it precisely because they are not racist.

7. Americans are the most philosemitic nation on earth. October 7 and the pro-Hamas left's reaction shocked them to their very core because, among other things, they remember what 9/11 was like and they know jihad when they see it.

8. Americans are extremely practical people. They care about what works, not what sounds good. In Europe, we produce great writers and intellectuals. In America they produce (and attract) great engineers, businessmen and investors. Because of this, they care less about Trump's rhetoric than you do and more about his policies than you do.

9. Americans are deeply optimistic people. They hate negativity. The woke view of American history as a series of evils for which they must eternally apologise is utterly abhorrent to them. They believe in moving forward together, not endlessly obsessing about the past.

10. America is a country whose founding story is one of resistance to government overreach. They loathe unnecessary restrictions, regulations and control. They understand that freedom comes with the price of self-reliance and they pay it gladly.

Having listened to the arguments of both sides over the last year, I'm no longer on the fence about Israel's war. Here is why:

The great advantage of living one’s life in Hebrew is that your psyche isn’t constantly buffeted by their insane obsession with you.

This urgency to deny the Jews the chance to mourn on October 7 isn’t some accidental mass-mobilization. It is purposeful and predatory. If the Jews are allowed to mourn, then the Jews are humanized, have a perspective worth noticing, dignity worth acknowledging, and a chance to recover.

But the point of October 7 was to be the start of a great and permanent cleansing of the world from the psychic irritant of the Jew. This is it. The chips are down. The Jews must be tormented constantly and mercilessly, their suffering denied, their evils magnified. They must be massacred in Israel and abused in London, New York and Twitter. Nothing can distract these great holy warriors from the sacred task of erasing the Jewish narrative and experience, and eventually the Jew (it’s no accident that Nassim is also now obsessed with Jewish genetics). And it will only get worse - both because the overall West doesn’t yet fully understand the threat of these ideologies to itself and because these holy warriors are convinced they’re on the cusp of victory.

So they torment the Jews, double down on the massacre, and defend and validate and call forth more of the same.

Fellow Jews, don’t forget you have your own language and your own polity now. We in Israel do not hear this abuse, we are mostly oblivious to it. When we do notice it, we mostly see it as a sign of societal decline, a bravado and brutality borrowed from certain Middle Eastern political and religious cultures that do not signal courage or intimidating capability, but ideological childishness and cultural incompetence. It is the same basic backwardness that hangs over our region like a stifling cloud.

My humble suggestion: Respond to this garbage as Israelis do. Turn off Twitter and go mourn with your own people. Find them in physical space, where you can see real faces and speak real words. That’s what I’m going to do.

Let our enemies rage and strut and convince themselves of the righteousness of their hatred. This is, alas, their baseline state when the going gets tough. It is their curse. You don’t have to live in it. You don’t even have to notice it. Go find some Jews.

Foreign governments are not allowed to own our radio and TV stations for fear they might be used for anti-American propaganda and influence. The Congress just banned TikTok for the same reason.

Why then do we allow foreign governments to give money to our universities, funds that are used to set up Middle Eastern, Asian studies and other programs which can be designed to fit the desired narratives of the donors.

Some points regarding the overnight Iranian missile attack on Israel:

1. Contrary to what pundits are saying, this wasn’t designed merely as “bells and whistles” with no damage.

When you shoot 350 flying objects timed to hit Israel at the same moment,
when you use three fundamentally different weapon types—cruise missiles, ballistic missiles and UAVs,
you’re looking to penetrate Israel’s defenses and kill Israelis.

2. The US administration is telling us: “This is a victory, you’ve already won by thwarting the missiles.
No need for any further action.”
No, it’s NOT a victory.
Yes, it’s a remarkable success of Israel’s air defense systems, but it’s not a victory.

When a bully tries to hit you 350 times and only succeeds seven time, you’ve NOT won.

You don’t win wars just by intercepting your enemy’s hits, nor do you deter it.
Your enemy will just try harder with more and better weapons and methods next time.
How DO you deter?
By exacting a deeply painful price.

3. It’s incorrect to say “nobody got hurt”.
There’s a 7 year-old Israeli-Arab girl called Amina Elhasuny fighting for her life.
That’s who coward Khamenei hit.

4. The Islamic Republic of Iran made a big mistake.
For the past 30 years it’s been wreaking havoc on the region—through its proxies.
A terror-octopus whose head is Tehran, and its tentacles are in Lebanon, Yemen, Iraq, Syria and Gaza.

How convenient.
The Mullahs send others to conduct horrendous terror attacks, and die for them.
Other people’s blood.

Israel’s strategic mistake for the past 30 years was to play along this strategy.
We always fought the Octopus’ arms, but hardly exacted a price from its Iranian head.
This should change now:
Hezbollah or Hamas shoots a rocket at Israel?
Tehran pays a price.

5. The enemy is the Iranian REGIME, not the wonderful Iranian people.
The Iranian regime reminds me of the Soviet regime in 1985: corrupt to the core, old, incompetent, despised by its own people, and destined to collapse.
The sooner the better.
The West can accelerate the regime’s inevitable collapse with a set of soft and clever actions, short of military force.
Remember, USSR collapsed without any need for a direct American attack.
Let’s do this.

6. Israel is fighting everybody’s war. In Gaza, Lebanon and Tehran.
We’re considered “the small satan” by radical Islam. America is the big one.

I’ll be clear: if these crazy fanatic Islamic terrorists get away with murder by hiding among civilians, this method will be adopted by terrorists worldwide.

We’re not asking anyone to fight for us. We’ll do the job.
But we do expect our allies to have our back, especially when it’s tough—and now it’s tough.
