A year ago we helped lift the lid on the sugar-laden pouches being pushed to parents of toddlers as 'healthy options'.
Sales have crashed.
It's progress, but it's not our job to warn parents.
It's for Govt to ensure that honest marketing is in place.

Always a pleasure to catch up with one of the most vocal advocates for dentists and dental patients in Parliament @MarykFoy MP.
Thank you for continuing to speak up for the millions currently unable to access the care they need.
Thanks @Jim4Dartford for talking to us about the rising tide of child tooth extractions - almost 2k teeth here were taken out of kids in Kent & Medway under general anaesthetic in just 6 months.
The human cost is as shocking as the millions wasted treating a preventable disease.
Pleasure to meet Andy Slaughter MP @hammersmithandy in Parliament today to talk about the need to go further and faster on oral health prevention, so little kids like @NatB990’s lovely Isaac grow up with healthy smiles.
Thank you @Peter_Dowd MP for speaking to us (and our little ambassador) today about the scandal of rising rates of hospital tooth extractions for kids with decayed teeth, and the need to keep the momentum on dental contract reform to ensure everyone can access an NHS dentist.
.@MariecGoldman MP was disgusted to see there number of rotten teeth taken out of children under a general anaesthetic in her area every single month - and rightly so. Investing in prevention and access to dental services are key to finally ending this scandal.
Tooth decay remains the number 1 reason for hospital admissions among young children.
It's not inevitable.
❌There's so much more government can do.
❌Reining in an industry pedalling sugar-filled junk as 'healthy options.'
❌And ensuring the next generation can access care.
The crisis millions face is not the handiwork of dentists.
It’s made in Westminster, in Holyrood, in Stormont and in Cardiff Bay.
In a week we’ve seen change at the top at DHSC I’ll be speaking on this how @thebda pushes for reform.
Join me at 11:25am in the BDA Theatre.
📉 Satisfaction with NHS dentistry is on the floor, but beneath the surface there’s a very different story…
📈 Satisfaction with dental care is sky high.
🦷 Patients agree, the problem isn’t their dentist: it’s NHS dentistry.

🦷 Dentistry: a profession over 59,000 years old...
“If I was marking this for a dental student, I wouldn’t give it an A, but given the circumstances it’s pretty impressive,” says Prof @JDurhamUK, our chief scientific adviser.

Delighted to represent @TheBDA at St Giles' Cathedral for the traditional Royal Kirking of Parliament, which marks the opening of a new parliamentary session in Scotland.
I was honoured to have the opportunity to speak to the Duke of Edinburgh and many returning and new MSPs.
Charities are stepping in to fill the gap in what's meant to be 'universal' healthcare.
Huge respect for those supporting these hard to reach communities.
Volunteers shouldn't have to plug the gap left by a generation of underfunding & failed contracts.

We’ve heard the phrase ‘let’s put the mouth back in the body’ countless times.
Nice words.
What’s been missing is the political will to actually make it happen.
❤️ Heart disease
💉 Diabetes
🧠 Dementia.
🦷 The links between oral health and general health are frightening.
As is the casual disinterest from too many governments - past and present - in dentistry.

"Govt has yet to commit a penny of new investment to underpin the rebuild of the service or extend access," warns @eddiecrouch
"For those struggling to find an NHS dentist, and who can’t afford private care, there are few options and no silver bullets."

The authorities can and must do more.
These weekly tours of travel taverns by non-UK registrants is one thing.
But these clinics gather annually just over the road from Parliament.
The Turkish ambassador has joined them.
But where are the GDC, DHSC or NHSE?!
"Dentistry in Britain is tightly regulated, but the authorities here seem utterly untroubled these clinics are now touting for business in UK hotels," warns @eddiecrouch.
"Regulators appear unwilling to tackle crimes taking place in plain sight.”
