The world’s primary forests are more than just trees. They are elders of the Earth, older than any human story, sheltering species we have yet to see, breathing life into the world around us.
Protect the irreplaceable.
Marking World Environment Day #IPCC’s Climate Change 2023: Synthesis Report highlights:
Human activities, principally through emissions of greenhouse gases, have unequivocally caused global warming.

“I have a foreboding of an America in my children's or grandchildren's time -- when the United States is a service and information economy; when nearly all the manufacturing industries have slipped away to other countries; when awesome technological powers are in the hands of a very few, and no one representing the public interest can even grasp the issues; when the people have lost the ability to set their own agendas or knowledgeably question those in authority; when, clutching our crystals and nervously consulting our horoscopes, our critical faculties in decline, unable to distinguish between what feels good and what's true, we slide, almost without noticing, back into superstition and darkness...
The dumbing down of American is most evident in the slow decay of substantive content in the enormously influential media, the 30 second sound bites (now down to 10 seconds or less), lowest common denominator programming, credulous presentations on pseudoscience and superstition, but especially a kind of celebration of ignorance”

Agriculture Sec @BrookeLRollins in November: "We have screwworm under control south of the border. Beef prices will come down by spring 2026"
Beef prices continue to rise, and screwworm is now in the US.
Solar panels have a dual purpose in this orchard. They produce clean electricity while shading apple trees from hail, frost and heavy rain.
We have the solutions. Implement them. #ActOnClimate#ClimateEmergency#climate#energy#renewables
Applebaum: Trump is using a specific language from the 1930s: “enemies within,” “enemies of the people,” migrants and political opponents as “vermin,” migrants “poisoning the blood” of Americans.
That language comes from Hitler, Stalin and the Stasi. 1/
Unfortunately, the Russian side once again chooses war – everyone heard the response today. Weak response. He simply does not want to end the war.
I think many around the world were disappointed by that response. He does not want to change anything, and he does not want to admit that this war appeals only to him – and to those who are making money off him. They were all smiling very broadly today.
That means Russia must have less money, and there must be more pressure on Russia.
I thank everyone who is helping us. I thank everyone who stands with Ukraine and wants a real peace.
“Better to be a member of the EU than a U.S. state” — Finland’s president made Canada an unexpected proposal
Alexander Stubb suggested expanding the EU to around 40 countries. He said Europe needs to become stronger on the global stage and more actively attract new partners.
Among possible candidates, Stubb named the United Kingdom, Canada, Turkey, Norway, and Iceland.
According to him, now is the right moment due to the war in Ukraine and shifts in U.S. policy.
Australia is replacing coal and gas power with solar and wind—
At the turn of the millennium, Australia got more than 80% of its electricity from coal. This has dropped to less than 45%.
The chart shows how the country’s electricity mix has changed in recent decades.
In the 2000s and early 2010s, coal was initially replaced by gas, with only moderate growth in solar and wind. But in the last five years, solar and wind have been deployed much more quickly.
Gas is now on the decline, too. In 2023, solar overtook gas to become Australia’s second-largest electricity source.
While coal is declining, it still supplies much more of Australia’s power than most high-income countries.

NEW - A 19 page PowerPoint is circulating among those who want to bring the Liberal Party back to BC. A meeting is coming to talk organization and fundraising. Whether this goes anywhere is the real question. #bcpoli#cdnpoli
The past eleven years have been the hottest on record.
Every fraction of a degree brings greater harm – especially to the most vulnerable.
This #WorldEnvironmentDay, warning signals are everywhere.
This is the moment to act for our environment & for our future.
Elon Musk, the wealthiest man alive, gutted USAID, which supports some of the poorest people in the world.
Now there's an Ebola outbreak in the Congo, which USAID could have helped prevent or slow.
When you dismantle the systems that stop deadly diseases, people needlessly die.
⚡️ Budapest has reached an agreement with Kyiv on the rights of the Hungarian minority in Ukraine.
This opens the way for Ukraine’s EU accession. Hungary will no longer block it.
El Niño is arriving on our doorstep in the coming months with 90% certainty.
The world must treat it as the urgent climate warning it is.
The only effective response is #ClimateAction equal to the crisis – ending the addiction to fossil fuels, accelerating the shift to renewables, protecting the most vulnerable, and delivering early warning systems for all.

Change of course to tackle pollution and inequality could double incomes for half as much time at work while keeping climate change under control, concludes new report. What’s not to like?

Gas spent 20 years owning the evening peak. Batteries took a year to crash the party.
That's disruption. Not gradual, but a rapid shift in who supplies grid's most valuable hours.
The battle was never about total generation. It was about the peak & batteries are winning it.
Wanting growth. Go green! CBI report shows Britain’s green economy growing by ten per cent a year, as are green jobs, now totalling over a million, paying better and more productive than others. Scrapping net zero would be economic madness.
