Study explores how systemic metabolism, particularly through a high-fat diet (HFD) rich in saturated fats, accelerates c-MYC-driven #ProstateCancer progression by rewiring tumor metabolism.
In a mouse model🐭the combination of c-MYC🧬 activation and an obesogenic HFD led to increased glycolysis and lactate accumulation in tumors, which promoted immune changes, including higher infiltration of tumor-associated macrophages and regulatory T cells. These alterations contributed to tumor growth, therapy resistance, and angiogenesis, which were reduced by lactate dehydrogenase inhibition.
Clinical data🥼 revealed similar tumor metabolic shifts in prostate cancer patients with high saturated fat intake, suggesting lactate's potential as a biomarker and target for dietary and therapeutic interventions in advanced prostate cancer.
