BREAKING: PAVED PARADISE! Trump is putting a giant granite helipad smack in the middle of the White House lawn so he can use a bigger helicopter – paid for by the company that sold it to him!

Donald Trump is transforming one of America's most recognizable green spaces into a permanent black granite helipad so his newer, more powerful version of Marine One will no longer scorch the grass where it used to land.

Even better for Trump, the project isn't coming out of his pocket or even directly from taxpayers: it's being financed by Lockheed Martin, the defense contractor that manufactures the helicopter.

Previous administrations considered the problem but always found solutions that left the historic White House grounds intact. Not Donnie the Builder. He thinks it's his house, not the people’s.

Construction crews are now installing a 100-foot-wide granite landing pad just steps from the White House itself, permanently altering grounds that have remained largely unchanged through generations of presidents.

In a remarkable arrangement, the company that builds the helicopter is paying to modify the White House grounds so the helicopter can operate there more easily, and deliver Trump to his front door like some kind of fake royalty.

Lockheed Martin, the country’s biggest defense contractor with more $75 billion in sales to the government last year, insists the donation complies with all ethics rules and says it was made through the National Park Service. Still, the optics are difficult to ignore.

Trump recently remarked that "there's no harder zoning thing to get" than approval for a helipad. For ordinary Americans, that might be true, but for Trump, he just does it. (He can’t be denied approval if he didn’t ask for it, right?)

The project also appears to have bypassed the kind of scrutiny that is supposed to accompany major changes to historic federal property. Nobody asked Congress to approve it, and the White House says review by the Commission of Fine Arts was not required.

For generations, Marine One landed on temporary pads that could be rolled away after each flight. That was sufficient for presidents from both parties.

Not for Trump, of course, who thinks not of history or posterity or beauty, but only of himself.

The South Lawn of the White House is one of the most recognizable public spaces in the United States, the front yard of a house that belongs to the American people.

Joni Mitchell once sang about paving paradise.

The White House has survived for more than two centuries because presidents understood they were caretakers, not owners. They occupied it for a few years and then passed it on to the next elected resident.

Trump’s radically different attitude about his stewardship of the presidency. From the Rose Garden to the ballroom/bunker, this new outrage of paving the heart of the White House lawn to deliver him directly to the front door, he’s leaving projections of his ultra-tacky aesthetic all over the place, no doubt to be removed later by a more thoughtful leader.

To Trump, tradition matters only when it serves him, and history only when it flatters him.

Long after Donald Trump is gone, the White House will still belong to the American people. The question is how well we can stop him from destroying it bit by bit.

So, the reflecting pool has been drained. There is no evidence of a 350 foot slit that Trump claims. The pool's lining has turned from blue to a grayish color (not blue at all). There is evidence of tire tracks over the sprayed coating from Trump and his motorcade driving over it.

We watched Trump's dangerous and deranged speech so you don't have to. Here are the moments you need to know about:

— He openly laid groundwork to challenge the midterms. He claimed our elections were "compromised," clearly setting up the justification to tamper with results before a single vote is counted.

— He said he'll "correct vulnerabilities" in our elections. Translation: he told you exactly what he plans to interfere with.

— He contradicted himself on China in real time. He first claimed China was "working to influence" and "undermining confidence" in him, then said he was doing a "great job" with them back when he made the claim. He couldn't keep his own conspiracy straight.

— He claimed China rigged the 2020 election, this time by getting journalists to write bad stories about him, because China supposedly wanted Biden to win since Trump was "wise to them."

— He said they found "burn bags" from the Obama Administration full of supposedly incriminating material, without ever saying what was actually in them.

— He said he needs "urgent measures" to stop our elections from being "hacked," citing Maduro's rigged machines in Venezuela in 2020 as his "evidence."

— He attacked networks for not airing him live, accusing them of being "part of the conspiracy to rig elections" and suggesting they should lose their broadcast licenses.

— He announced he wants to seize voter data from states he's deemed "vulnerable" ahead of the midterms.

This was a sitting president telegraphing, step by step, how he plans to undermine the 2026 midterms with egregious lies and conspiracy theories.

BREAKING: HELL YEAH! The New York Times hits back HARD against Trump by filing to quash the "abusive and improper subpoenas" that he's crookedly using to target their journalists.

“They violate the constitutional rights of The Times and its journalists,” stated The Times’s top newsroom attorney David McCraw. “We are going to court to defend our journalists’ rights to report freely on the administration and to provide the public with stories that matter.”

He described the subpoenas — which were delivered by federal goons who showed up at the reporters' homes — as “brought in bad faith to punish the Times for its coverage” and said that they “violate the constitutional rights” of the outlet.

The subpoenas aim to compel the journalists to testify before a grand jury about confidential sources and were delivered in the wake of their reporting on the likely security-compromised jet that Trump accepted from Qatar to use as Air Force One. The Times reports that Trump was "enraged" by their coverage.

In addition to quashing the subpoenas, McCraw is working to get them unsealed because The Times "believes that the public has a right to information about this case and is also seeking to have the papers unsealed.” The fact that they're sealed at all demonstrates that the Trump administration realizes they're on shaky legal and moral ground here and would rather conduct this business in the dark.

The Times's Executive Editor Joe Kahn described the subpoenas as "a naked attempt to intimidate The New York Times and to keep us from reporting on matters that we think are essential to national security," adding that he has "seen the way an authoritarian government can keep journalists from reporting on a huge amount of news and information that’s very clearly in the public interest.”

“It’s really essential to American democracy that that kind of erosion of press freedoms not happen here,” he added.

Simply put, Donald Trump is the most anti-free speech President in history. He doesn't believe in the First Amendment as a sacrosanct right and would prefer an America in which he could jail his political opponents for daring to utter even the tamest of criticisms of his failed administration.

The problem, ultimately, is that restoration of free passage in the Hormuz Strait would require a massive combined-arms offensive that would be extremely costly in blood and treasure, that would necessitate involvement of Western allies who no longer trust us and won't fight with us, and for which there would be little, if any, domestic political support.

Had the Iranians taken control of the strait unilaterally without our provocation, the conditions for such a massive response—involving ground troops, allies, and Congressional authorization—might have been possible.

Which is why the Iranians never did that.

Now Trump—and we—are stuck. And the Iranian regime knows it. They correctly perceive Trump's flailing as weakness, and their new leaders, having gained the upper hand after a decapitation strike, know they have the upper hand. They don't give a shit about Trump's threats.

It's hard to imagine a greater and graver strategic failure than this one, which has resulted solely from Trump's idiocy, ignorance, incompetence, impulsiveness, and insanity.
