A cryptography lecture that regular (curious) people can enjoy about the reasons that innovation in cryptography is really hard to propagate into real world usage and covers a lot of crypto signature history by Abhi Shelat: https://t.co/83KDdZN23p
@DeComputeConf
📜 Historical Context: abhi explored one historical transition point, the standardization of the Digital Signature Algorithm (DSA/DSS) by NIST in the 1990s. While conversations from then around patents, efficiency, and untested schemes persist in some form today.
📚 Research Agendas for a Legacy-heavy Field: An effective research agenda must consider the slow deployment of new cryptography. abhi emphasized that advanced functionalities can be enabled for legacy/standardized cryptography, without waiting for bespoke schemes to grow.

Key insights from abhi shelat's session:
🔍 Legacy Inertia: While most consumer technology has evolved rapidly, why are the cryptographic algorithms we use today from decades ago? abhi prompted us to reflect on the processes that determine which technologies enjoy wide reach
His captivating talk, "Shackles of Legacy," explored why updates in cryptography take much longer to propagate widely than other forms of technology, and how research agendas can be framed to complement this tradition.

At DeCompute 2024, we had the privilege of hosting abhi shelat, a renowned professor at Khoury College of Computer Sciences at @Northeastern, as our keynote speaker.
In 2018, Coincheck suffered a $534M hack—a sobering reminder shared by @mikebelshe@bitgo at @DeComputeConf 2024 — underscoring the urgent need to eliminate single points of failure in #Crypto where fast-growing companies battle for security resiliency as they scale. #Decompute2024 #CryptoSecurity #CyberBreach
Almost every interaction i had at @DeComputeConf i learned something. Some of the talks are sometimes a bit hard for me to follow because i don´t have all the maths pre requisite but we all have to start somewhere. Its a small event packed with nice sharp people of diverse backgrounds. Really happy we came early to attend it before breakpoint
@pramodkvarma sharing history of incredible growth in Indian Fintech and how technology such as privacy will pave way for global DPI benchmarks.
@UPI_NPCI
Supdoggie of @StarShellWallet giving a talk on his and @darwinzero‘s work at the prestigious @DeComputeConf. Delayed Write Buffers for better privacy, FHE-based HEAPs for scalability on @SecretNetwork. Both coming live soon. Excited to see FHE coming to Secret!
