We are deeply saddened by the news that one of our Vice Presidents, Mike Hawkins, passed away last week at the age of 86.

Mike was a true gentleman who always had a smile on his face and a joke to tell. He was a much-loved and familiar figure at Tiverton Town Football Club and gave an incredible amount of his time to the Club over many years.

Mike initially began helping Gordon Curtis with various jobs on the pitch and around the ground. He was always willing to lend a hand wherever he was needed, whether that was driving the tractor or helping Gordon and Brian Whiting divot the pitch at half-time. Many supporters will remember seeing Mike on his Kubota tractor, travelling up and down the pitch and helping to keep the ground looking its best.

Gordon said: "Mike was magnificent, such a help to me for over 25 years."

In later years, Mike became our Kit Man, a role he carried out with tremendous dedication for many years, including during Martyn Rogers' time as manager.

Mike was Kit Man when Tiverton Town travelled to Wembley on three occasions – memories we are sure he treasured greatly. He served in the role for around 30 years, demonstrating an extraordinary level of commitment and loyalty to the Club.

In 2021, Mike was made a Vice President of Tiverton Town Football Club, an honour that was so richly deserved and recognised his many years of service.

Mike will be greatly missed by everyone at Tivvy Town. He gave so much to our Club and was one of those special people whose contribution went far beyond any particular role he held.

A true Tiverton Town legend.

We send our deepest sympathies and condolences to Mike's daughters, Sue and Lin, and to all of his family and friends at this very sad time.

At Saturday's game, we will honour Mike's memory with a one-minute applause.

Rest in peace, Mike, and thank you for everything you gave to Tiverton Town Football Club 💛
