#OTD 42 years ago, eight brave @penleelifeboat crew members launched in treacherous conditions to help the Union Star, a stricken coaster being swept towards Cornwall.

Tragically, the heroic volunteers would not return home and 16 people lost their lives.

Today we remember the crew of the Penlee lifeboat RNLB Solomon Browne who were lost 42 years ago today, whilst on a mission to rescue the Union Star cargo ship

In April 2019 we proudly named Intercity Express Train 802008 after them
