@Headteacherchat Hi, I stepped out in May this year after 8 years as a DHT. I considered headship but it’s a different world compared to when I started teaching and I actually needed a break after Covid. I work for a union now advising school staff, love my job and have my life back.
@JamesTheo I’m reasonably sure I was at the Manchester Senser gig in 94’. You also used to be able buy tickets for a gig from a box office and usually they weren’t sold out. 🙂
To anyone planning on spending the last couple of weeks of their holidays planning KS4 units - if you can help it, DON’T. I have full schemes for R+J, ACC, AIC, P+C poetry, Unseen Poetry. Plus Language stuff! Easily accessible links ready to share. Just ask!!!
@RogersHistory I see a future where teachers working too many hours that lead to mistakes sue schools and trusts for not ensuring safe working environments and fulfilling their duty of care to staff.
@Gwenelope Nope! Got a job at ASCL, so I keep my hand in the educational game. Considering doing some day supply at my old school from Sept onwards but only one day a week as needed so no outside pressures.
@Gwenelope I promise you’ll feel better each week that passes! I’m kind of bummed out that I didn’t make it to Headship but the job has changed out of all recognition since I planned that as my path years ago. Im mid forties and don’t want to be a wreak by my sixties - hence a change! Xx
@Gwenelope I was useless for the 1st month; I genuinely think if I’d carried on I’d have had a proper nervous breakdown. I loved my job but I needed to get out; it’s unsustainable as things are and I felt so guilty all the time asking so much of staff. Now I’m 2.5 months out & feel SO GOOD!
@Gwenelope How’s it feel having left the chalk face? I quit at May half term after my Y11 had finished. I never had any proper free time away from the shadow of work. It’s been a revelation…
@LWoods0722 It’s admirable that you work so hard for your students, but it also depresses me. As a profession we have been conditioned to expect these working hours, and in turn promote them to others as basic requirements of the job. I worry about teacher R&R and just general health.
