10/10 - 3am - Hurricane force winds are slamming Daytona right now with gusts past 80mph-90mph. The backside of Hurricane #Milton with be windier than the start. Stay with FOX 35 continuous coverage for the latest on how long the winds last and how much more flooding we'll see.
One of our officers was driving behind this vehicle when a tree suddenly fell. Thankfully this driver is OK, but this is a reminder that conditions will continue to deteriorate as Hurricane Milton impacts Florida. @DeLandPD
10:06 am 10/9 - Confirmed tornado in Palm Beach County about to cross I-75 in Palm Beach County. This is associated with Hurricane #Milton. We will see a tornado threat developing this afternoon.
Wed 10/9 4:00am -- Hurricane #Milton Update for Central Florida... Landfall looks to be between 1am and 4am Thursday... for the Bradenton, St. Pete Beach, Tampa Bay region... If you've been ordered to evacuate on the Gulf Coast, you really should this time... I don't say that lightly. It's not too late, but will be after sunset today.
The worst of the storm (the eye wall) and peak storm surge start moving in as early as Wednesday evening and night. This period of time late today will represent life-threatening conditions for Gulf coastal areas, with winds of 80-100 mph, 10-15 feet of deadly storm surge at the coast and flooding rains of over a foot.
Meanwhile in Orlando, Kissimmee and Daytona, I want to reiterate that at the end of the day, this will be a FLOOD EVENT for a lot of our region starting in the wee hours of Thursday, when the most intense arrives with totals of 10"-19" in a stripe of intense precipitation along and north of the eyewall. As it travels up I-4 in the predawn hours Thursday, through midmorning Thursday, it'll likely induce flooding which will enter some homes and make travel quite hazardous with some impassable roads. This could rival Hurricane Ian (2022) flooding.
Even in inland Central Florida, it'll be windy as the then Cat 1 hurricane (weakening from Cat 3 at landfall) moves through. Winds in Orlando region between 60-80mph in gusts... Sustained at the open fields of our airport observation posts, closer to 30-50mph with gusts to 90 mph... Tornado threat: Today between late-morning until the eye wall expect numerous tornado warnings in what will be brief tornadoes.
**Timing FOR ORLANDO/KISSIMMEE**
4am-Noon ... downpours slowly but surely develop and winds get a bit gusty to 35mph.
Noon-6pm ... downpours and isolated tornadoes ... some spotty nuisance flooding... this is just the pre-saturation rain
7pm- 11pm ... numerous areas of heavy rain and winds to 30-45 mph in a few gusts
Midnight- 3am Thu ... winds start to pick up toward 3am as eye wall moves in from Bradenton ... about 100 miles away
5am Thu - Noon Thu ... heaviest rain and acute flash flooding ... enters some homes... winds 40-65 mph.
Noon Thu - 5pm ... after the worst rain, some hurricane-force gusts on backside of storm 75-80mph Atlantic Beaches ... Storm surge kicks up tomorrow from late morning until sunset... 2-4ft rises, worst at high tide. Winds on backside of system north at 60-100 mph in gusts. HIGH TIDE TOMORROW ON ATLANTIC SIDE (during worst storm surge on Atlantic side) is 3pm Thursday, at Ponce Inlet...
Sunday Oct. 6, 7:30AM— Current real satellite of tropical storm #Milton.
It is not a hurricane yet, but could become one as early as Sunday night.
Milton is forecast to hit the Gulf Coast … maybe near Tampa Bay as a major hurricane on Wednesday and then could push through Orlando.
**A lot can change in these three days from landfall but Tampa Bay is in the center of that cone so may have a higher likelihood of impact..**
IMPORTANT: THE OFFICIAL NHC FORECAST CONE EXTENDS FROM THE BIG BEND TO THE KEYS. This means its core center could track anywhere within that several hundred mile span. It’s important to understand the reality of the broad range of potential so if you live in Naples/Ft. Myers or Cedar Key you should stay on guard just the same— and can’t necessarily bank on it hitting Tampa. (Remember Ian?)
Any track or intensity deviation could change where the damage is worst and ultimately spare places which might currently look to get hit hardest… (Look at Helene versus Tallahassee as an example recently… It was in the bulls eye but escaped virtually unscathed.)
The forecast cone should get more narrow, indicating growing certainty as we get closer to landfall.
Every major system is surrounded by a storm of hype. Please consider your sources as this very serious system approaches Florida, so you can make decisions based on reality, not panic.
#TrafficAlert@fox35orlando I4- westbound lanes towards Downtown Orlando are currently shut down. Traffic is being diverted off the exit near South street, near Kia Center. All express lanes are open.
