Jewish Israelis torched a security installation overnight that helps thwart terror attacks in the Binyamin region, according to the IDF—even drawing a rare condemnation from National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir.

As serious as overnight’s incident was, it’s important to view it in context. Settler violence is nowhere near as widespread as many believe, but there’s a campaign to paint it as a systemic problem.

I wrote about this in December 2023:

A friend with kids recently visited his sister. “Want chocolate milk?” the aunt asked, and of course, the kids shouted yes. “Okay, just so you know,” she quipped, “the powder isn’t chocolate, but rather carob powder. The milk is soy milk, and we drink it without sugar.”

I was reminded of that chocolate-less chocolate milk when I saw the UN data on settler violence—the most important issue in the world’s eyes between the river and the sea before the war broke out. Since the start of the war in Gaza, it holds the honorable second place.

But once you break down the numbers on settler violence, it turns out there’s not much violence—and not many settlers.

Dr. Michael Wolfowicz, a criminology researcher from the Faculty of Law at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, looked at the UN data. On the face of it, it’s horrifying. Between 2016 and 2022, there were no fewer than 5,656 incidents of settler violence against Palestinians.

But diving into the details reveals that 1,600 of those happened in Jerusalem, almost all of which were instances of Jewish entry to the Temple Mount or police clashes with Muslims rioting there.

After further filtering, there are another 2,500 events that describe property damage or physical assault—but these include, for example, a terrorist attack carried out by a Palestinian that ended with the terrorist being killed. On April 8, 2018, Muhammad Abd al-Karim Marshoud attempted to stab Israeli civilians in Ma’ale Adumim. He was injured and died the next day. Astonishingly, in the case of Marshoud, the UN recorded two incidents of violence: On April 8, a Palestinian was shot; on April 9, the Palestinian died.

There’s more. On July 26, 2018, 30-year-old Yotam Ovadia was stabbed to death by a 17-year-old Palestinian terrorist. Here too, according to the UN, the neutralization of the terrorist by Yotam is recorded as settler violence. The same applies to a stabbing attack in the Hebron Hills; another one in Yitzhar; injuries to Arab rioters from Israeli security forces’ gunfire at Joseph’s Tomb; and entering the Tomb of Joshua.

Even traffic accidents in which settlers hit Palestinians were classified as violence.

In the end, we’re left with about 20 violent incidents per month, most of them mutual, and some reported only by Palestinians, with no verification. Even if all are true, here’s the proper comparison: according to the IDF, between 2019 and 2022 alone, there were 25,257 Palestinian attacks on settlers—a rate of 500 a year. Last year, that number jumped to 763.

The inflation of settler violence from a limited phenomenon to absurd proportions is meant to soothe the world’s conscience by creating a strange kind of symmetry for the support it gives Israel in its war against the murderous Hamas.

In Israel, the campaign serves the purpose of expelling settlers and establishing a Palestinian state in Judea and Samaria.

This week, the news site HaKol HaYehudi published a policy paper from a think tank funded by the New Israel Fund and a German foundation, whose goal is to vilify settlers and revive the idea of Palestinian independence.

Dear Mike Huckabee,

Now that Shabbat has ended, I saw your post and the alerts across the news channels about your visit today to Turmus Ayya — and about those “dangerous and threatening settlers” whom you apparently saw driving a security Ranger.

*Well, that was me. I was the driver of the Ranger you filmed.*

And I want you to hear directly from me what actually happened today.

This morning, our shepherd, who was out with the flock, reported that dozens of vehicles had gathered at the edge of the village — precisely in an area from which, over the past several months, there have been repeated attacks and arson incidents against us.

I got into our security Ranger to check what was happening, and at the same time we notified the IDF as per protocol.

When we arrived and saw respectable people and media crews, we said hello and continued on our way. Shortly afterward, the army informed us that this was a proper, coordinated visit.

That is the entire story.

And yet, within minutes, we were portrayed in the media as “dangerous settlers.”

Amabssador Huckabee, I will respectfully relate some facts to you that they surely didn’t share with you today.

For example:

1. Until recently, the head of the Turmus Ayya municipality was *Lafi Shalabi*, who was a partner in assisting in the murder of the youth Yehuda Guetta, of blessed memory. While he was in prison, the village chose him to head the municipality — as a sign of honor for his actions.

2. A member of the Turmus Ayya municipal council, *Abu Samra*, with whom you were photographed today in warm handshakes, is a released terrorist, who is photographed with weapons and published incitement to murder and attacks; in his view, Jews as well as Americans are the enemy. He also led the opposition in the village to the hanging of American flags on the houses, and following the struggle, the flags were removed from the Turmus Ayya municipal building. Only in recent years, Abu Samra was personally involved in several cases of attacks and looting of Jews and their property in the Shiloh area settlements.

3. Throughout the village there are dozens of monuments glorifying terrorists and terrorism, alongside a map of the State of Israel painted in the colors of Palestine, which testifies to their true intentions.

4. *Abla al-Kuk*, the manager of the girls’ high school who was photographed with you today, has for years been involved in educating generations of students with messages of incitement, encouragement and glorification of terrorism. She also personally participated in and led violent riots against settlers and security forces.

5. In the past year alone, hundreds of incidents of attacks have occurred, including stone throwing, arson, lynchings and shooting, by Arabs from the village against shepherds, farmers, innocent Jewish travelers who had just returned home, as well as against army forces.

6. You also met with the wife of the “martyr” *Omar al-Katin*, who was killed after attempting to harm police officers, and with additional representatives of families of those who attempted to harm soldiers and innocent civilians.

7. We also saw how the ambulance drivers in Turmus Ayya showed you videos that were edited and cut in a biased manner. In the incident in question, the ambulance deliberately blocked an army jeep while hundreds of Arabs pelted it with stones. When the soldiers had no choice and were forced to get out of the area in order to protect their lives, they lightly struck the edge of the ambulance in order to extricate themselves. They also did not tell you that the entire incident was an attempt to run toward the Israeli communities. You also saw videos presented to you today by ambulance drivers from the village. I ask you to watch the full footage, rather than edited clips.

When you cut out the beginning of an incident, you can make almost any story look completely different.

Everyone is sharing the Bill Clinton clip where he describes how Yasser Arafat rejected a generous peace offer at Camp David that would have given the Palestinians a state on 96 percent of the West Bank, land swaps, and a capital in East Jerusalem. Clinton says Arafat lied to him and that the Palestinian leadership never actually wanted a two-state solution. They wanted to destroy Israel. It’s a video often shared by people like @VividProwess, and it’s an important one for people to see.

Of course, critics immediately dismiss it. They claim Clinton is biased or he’s pro-Israel. They’ll tell you that you cannot trust the American perspective.

Ok, so let us set that aside.

Now watch this.

In this powerful interview, former Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak, a major Arab leader who was directly involved in negotiations, says exactly the same thing from the Arab side. He talks about the Mena House Conference in Cairo as well as the Camp David negotiations of 1978. All failed because of the Palestinians repeatedly rejecting any offer. The Oslo accords were signed but because Hamas and the Palestinian Islamic Jihad were not involved, they derailed the accords and any chance for peace by initiating 4 years of terrorist suicide attacks in Israel. Then came the second Camp David negotiations in 2000 which Arafat agreed to, then rejected and instead initiated the Second Intifada.

Mubarak explains how the Palestinians refused to even participate in the Mena House conference of 1977. He describes repeated opportunities they were given, including a detailed document that called for Israeli withdrawal from the Samaria, Judea and Gaza, security arrangements during a transitional period, and other major concessions. The Israelis were willing to negotiate on difficult issues like who would control security. The Palestinians, according to Mubarak, kept saying no and wasting chance after chance.

He speaks with clear frustration about how for decades the Palestinian side has rejected peace initiatives and realistic compromises.

The video further shows footage from the PLO representative in 1977, as well as old footage of Egyptian president Sadat who was involved in the Mena House and first Camp David negotiations of 1978.

This perhaps is far more impactful than Clinton’s account because it is not a Western or Israeli voice. It is prominent Arab leaders who lived the negotiations, who represented the broader Arab world, and who had zero incentive to defend Israel.

When leaders from both sides of the table describe the same pattern of Palestinian rejectionism and violence, it becomes much harder to dismiss as bias.

The pattern is clear across decades and across different voices… generous offers, repeated refusals, and continued demands for everything while giving nothing in return.

This is not ancient history. It is the core reason the conflict continues today.
