Writing this without an iota of hate of ill-will toward @Ram_Guha , @HartoshSinghBal , Harish Khare, @tavleen_singh @waglenikhil and many other Gandhi family baiters who have repeatedly targeted Rahul Gandhi and his politics of opposition to the Modi led BJP. I now understand that most of you are still fighting the @INCIndia of 1975 and 1984 among others just as the Sangh is fighting the Congress of Gandhi and Nehru. Much of legacy media and social media are dominated by these two groups. But here's a third group which became politicised in 1992 with the rise of Hindutva- the pro- Rahul Gandhi voice on social media is roughly this group of Gen X ers and a motley mix of a new millennials and GenX.

We are disturbed by the repeated attacks on Rahul Gandhi not because we are members of the Congress party or are blind followers of any cult- we are disturbed because the anti-Congressism of the earlier groups is blinding most toward the clear and present danger that stares before us - the existential threat to our Republic. Rahul Gandhi is among the very few of our politicians who has been able to consistently articulate that danger by his fearless attacks on the Sangh and its agenda of destroying the secular fabric of this country. He might never become Prime Minister of this country - but history will be kinder towards him than many of you would like to believe.

The ₹20 Maggi Argument

Every tourist season, the same complaint shows up again “Uttarakhand and Himachal people sell ₹20 Maggi for ₹120”.

It’s often said with a smirk, as if it proves locals are “looting” visitors. And somehow this one joke becomes an excuse for rude behaviour and zero respect for local culture.

But here’s what many people don’t admit.

The same people don’t complain when a ₹20 parantha is sold for ₹100 near hostels, coaching centres, metro stations, or office areas in Delhi-NCR. There, it’s called “normal.”

They accept surge pricing for trains and flights. Peak season hotel rates. Overpriced coffee. Even paying extra for the newest phone after standing in a long line. No outrage then. That’s called “demand.”

But when a pahadi shopkeeper tries to earn in his own village, running a small shop in the mountains, arranging supplies on difficult roads, sometimes even carrying water to the shop, and sells you a plate of Maggi you’ll proudly post on social media… suddenly it becomes “loot.”

That’s not economics. That’s entitlement.

In the hills, costs are real. Transport is harder. Weather can shut roads. Shops have fewer customers in off season. Options are limited. Risk is higher. So prices are different.

If you can understand city surge pricing, you can understand this too.

Come for the snow and the views. Just don’t bring the habit of looking down on the people who live there all year.
