Such terrible news coming from St. Michan's Church, with the destruction of mummified remains through arson.
I included this historic postcard in the Three Castles Burning book.
I don't believe the lore that Stoker was ever there, but in the same decade that he was writing Dracula a tourist guidebook to Dublin wrote of how the air in the vaults was such that “bodies deposited there have been kept for centuries in such a state of preservation as to keep the features discernible, and the bones, cartilages and skin astonishingly perfect.”
Others at rest in the crypt include the Sheares Brothers, prominent members of the Society of United Irishmen who went to the gallows together in 1798.
