The saddest thing about AI writing is that readers assume an em dash is the product of such an engine. It’s one of the most beautiful bits of punctuation and there are times when it is the only elegant solution. Some of us have been using it — and been guilty of overusing it — for decades now.

An essay based on my fieldwork in Umrangso that began in 2020. The stories of loss and extraction emerging out of the town were many even then. Today the situation is substantially worse. If you wish to take a look, please find my chapter in the new NESRC publication.
It is amazing how Zubeen da's rebellious voice comforted all who felt alien, excluded and unsure in this crazy city.
As I listen to his famous Dimasa song 'Ning ani lugu gibi', I pray - may his gentle heart continue to inspire solidarity and courage always 🤍
Had the best time connecting with my amazing peers from so many different pockets of the Eastern Himalayas. Here's to a life long journey of solidarity and friendship forged at this workshop by Zubaan and HBS ❤️

It is the second day of the #protest in Begging village near the survey camp of the 11,000 MW #SiangUpperMultipurposeProject (#SUMP) in Siang district, against the deployment of #CentralArmedPoliceForces stationed in the region to facilitate survey work for the mega hydro project. Video: Marina Dai
Take your time out and partcipate. Via media, post or physical presence. Don’t let these greedy bastards, money minded win. 11500MW dam is no joke. 2880 MW Dibang dam is the record holder, imagine the consequence of 11500MW?
Villagers opposed to the 11,000 MW #SiangUpperMultipurposeProject are protesting the deployment of #armedpersonnel by the state to facilitate construction of the mega project in Upper Siang and Siang districts.
