@EternalEnglish@FUDdaily Define ‘parasitising’? I don’t care much about colour of skin, or country of birth. Massive growth in PIP payments, welfare and entitlement culture the key problems. Pay more in taxes than you take in handouts? You’re my kind of people. Regardless of ethnicity.
@MichaelAArouet None of us ‘know’ with certainty anything , beyond death, taxes and in the very long term, the end of planet earth. I’ll wager the fertile lands of Sicily and the property within it are a better long term real estate bet than commuter belts in Northern Europe and the US.
@paulcdobbs@emmafildes Wrong headed take. Nothing to do with the reasons you site (immigration, street crime, malls - yuck!). It’s been driven by a less friendly tax regime (for international buyers), affordability and higher interest rates. London still a world class city. Dubai will never compare.
@BigJohn043@Kirkland_Ellis Two clarifications please, 1) Are the private equity returns, based on cash distributions? Or fictional profits from an accountants pension? DPI is the new IRR. 2) Have the returns been adjusted for financial leverage employed, private vs public equity?
@DanNeidle I’m surprised you have excluded removing tax paid on gilt ‘income’ for UK based savers? Would create new demand for gilts, reducing yields (interest rate paid by government to finance new debt).
@LoveGarmadon@MerrynSW@monoculture2016 Thanks for sharing! I suspected as much. Yet as noted, that’s not the experience I’ve had. Or many of my high tax paying peers.
@LoveGarmadon@MerrynSW@monoculture2016 Interested to know what assumption underpins BIK for top decile? Kids in private school. Private healthcare = limited demand on the NHS. Try to call the police occasionally to report a crime and get nothing back. That’s my lived experience.
@MarkDampier@PolemicTMM I often hear sales folks suggesting ex US/value equity allocations to diversify this risk. I don’t buy it. If the US equity market cracks, so will the rest of the world. A key question is whether high quality debt proves highly correlated in this scenario.
@theficouple This is how it was in the past, not today. High house prices in many cities means children have to return to the parental home after university, sometimes for many years.
@AimenDean@profsked Yes, broadly agree. And I live in the UK. The answer is co-pay. Like much of the rest of the developed world does. Nevertheless, I don’t aspire to an Egyptian, Bangladeshi or Pakistani quality of health service. That’s the wrong peer group.
