Democrats chose to become the party of the white collar professional class, at the expense of working people, and everyone else is an after thought

@AcStaples@SpeakingBee@mattyglesias No. Their most recent (and highest) elected office before the Presidency was Vice President, and most of them assumed the office through vacancy rather than being elected to it. Interesting that you left Andrew Johnson off your list since he also fits the pattern.
@mattyglesias It’s also apparently includes anything a democrat has proposed since Woodrow Wilson, including the Heritage Foundation’s own health insurance subsidy program.
@mattyglesias Instead of conceding to this proposal the better proposition is to use the wedge issue. If Democrats can get public land using Republicans to defect over conservation this could be a huge win, but you’ll squander it if they think you also want to sell off pubic lands.
A lot of our present discontent is downstream from the fact that Obama broke a lot of people’s hearts. He promised hope and change, didn’t deliver all that much of it, then retreated to a quiet life of opulence and golfing. Ever since we’ve had a politics dominated by cynicism.
@FrankRosenbau13 @Middle_Mtn1@mattyglesias@tylercowen They’re not. The vaccine made covid less severe and less deadly in those who took it AND didn’t significantly reduce the rate of transmission.
@Last_DayWithYou @atrupar I can’t tell if this is real or not because it’s exactly what I would expect him to say regardless of whether or not he said it.
@brilivs@patdennis I don’t think the public wants destruction I think they want action, movement, change. The system isnt working, change it.
Obama ran on change and he pissed off a lot of people by choosing not to deliver any.
@atrupar “Trump campaigned on eggs prices” is a message to other Democrats to embrace economic populism instead of meaningless moth noises, convoluted means testing and incrementalism
@eorre_ecc@MattBruenig No, they don’t. Military service is voluntary. If service were mandatory then preference would make sense - it was originally created for wounded draftees and expanded over time. Veteran hiring preference without conscription makes zero sense.
