@TehranDefence The Florida Panthers winning last night really wasn't that big of a surprise, and nobody will remember it in five years' time, let alone centuries.
@BogochIsaac I don't understand how this is possible for the school-aged people. It's a requirement to attend school to be immunized from measles, except for medical or religious exemptions.
@AGMacDougall@CPC_HQ I don't know how many elections the Conservatives can go without a credible strategy in Quebec. It's been 40 years now! Until this changes, it's difficult to see CPC as a real contender except for periodic exhaustion relief. That is not a plan for serious people.
@JamesSurowiecki Agreed. This is ChatGPT's translation of the formula into English: In short:This formula calculates how much the U.S. tariff rate needs to change to reach a balanced trade position (imports = exports), factoring in how sensitive import volumes are to tariff-driven price changes.
@joncoopertweets Cuba and North Korea also don't have PNTR status, and they're not on the list either. I love a good conspiracy as much as the next guy, but I don't think that's what this is here. Just how trade status works.
@joncoopertweets If you're looking for a serious answer, I suspect it's because Russia and Belarus had their PNTR status revoked in 2022 so tariffs are already crazy super-high. Plus there are outright bans on some goods. I suspect it would have been difficult to thread that needle here.
@GoddessTee___@goddek Nonsense. When the semi wanted to brake, it was able to slow from 75MPH to 57MPH in 4 seconds (0.06 to 0.10 in the video). The issue that was arising was clearly apparent from 0.02 in the video, and he kept going full blast. This was 100% "screw you I'm not letting you in."
@RealGaryWood55@jonsopel It’s ok. He already said that they don’t need anything from Canada including electricity. So this surtax should have no effect on America.
@modpeanuts@EarnieAdams@GJCMDP@roddreher@mualphaxi Yeah, but that's true in every industry. That's not just the effect of free trade, it's the design: weak industries die, strong get bigger. The real reason for this is for food security: you just can't allow big agribusiness to wipe out self-sufficiency on food, of all things.
@modpeanuts@EarnieAdams@GJCMDP@roddreher@mualphaxi Free trade doesn't prevent countries from imposing the same standards on imports that they do for their own country. It just prevents imposing barriers to entry for the same goods. Which the over-cap tariffs do, as OP noted. True free trade wouldn't have these.
@EarnieAdams@modpeanuts@GJCMDP@roddreher@mualphaxi Almost everything was tariff free. The few exceptions were in agricultural, because for some reason farmers hold this iron grip on politicians here (like the US). For sure most Canadians would accept no tariffs across the board with no agricultural protections.
@EarnieAdams@ellim992@roddreher@mualphaxi Same thing. It is (was) tariff free, up to the cap. Beyond the cap, Canada's dairy tariff is way higher than the Americans. But that's what Trump negotiated under USMCA. The deal is a collection of trade-offs, some "favour" Canada, some "favour" US. 🤷♂️
@howardanglin It would be prudent to develop our port and rail capacity to have some alternative and cost-effective options. Even if everything becomes rosy again; having options always is beneficial.
@A_G_McClain Here is ChatGPT’s view of this: The post grossly misrepresents Canada’s tariff structure for U.S. imports under USMCA. Most US goods enter Canada tariff-free. For dairy and poultry, high tariffs only apply to imports exceeding quotas. The majority of the listed tariffs are false
@effwu@Breanna_Needham There are further levels to this. If business formal with a pocket square, I am wearing a tux. If they are wearing a tux, I have one with a top hat. If they have that, then also a monocle and white gloves. From there, full military dress from Britain. At that point you give up
@thesaleshole@TheBikingLawyer@CycleToronto@MayorOliviaChow I agree, but I think the fact that the driver wasn't even allowed to turn right here changes that equation. Like I wouldn't expect a truck to be coming down the wrong way on a street; so too I wouldnt expect a truck to be turning right where they were not allowed to.
