Check out our #Youtube channel, Derek Swe from @PersonPercept@PersonPercept tells us about the neural markers of trustworthiness!

A lovely “farewell & good luck dinner” last night for @JemmaCollova who is leaving us for an exciting new position with WA Police. We are happy for Jemma (1st photo) but sad (2nd photo)to be losing such a talented researcher, generous collaborator & wonderful human. @UWApsych
Who needs a twitter thread when you can create a GIF about your research, with @JeremyWilmer @C_AMSutherland 💁♀️
In our PNAS twin study paper, we find that unique experiences influence who we learn to trust: https://t.co/4jsk4aSIMj

Congrats to @DerekSwe (& @DrMeenie, @C_AMSutherland, @gillian_rhodes, Scott Gwinn, Markus Neumann, Shanele Payart) on publication of 1st PhD paper showing reliable neural activity associated with implicit perceptions of facial trustworthiness. @UWApsych https://t.co/IsM4o0uIML

Do people believe that facial features (=static morphological properties of a face) are indicative of personality traits? We examine the prevalence, structure, and correlates of lay beliefs in physiognomy: https://t.co/qlEMVDajLo (w/ @tony_m_evans and others)
Excited to share my PhD results now in press, JPSP!
We find children's faces are not evaluated on the same dimensions as adult faces. These results support the functioinal assumption underlying impressions and suggest considerable dimension flexibility

Our paper “Testing the functional basis of first impressions: Dimensions for children’s faces are not the same as for adults’ faces” is now online @C_AMSutherland @gillian_rhodes 😄 Child face dimensions : A) Niceness B) Shyness

Photographer Rebecca Huchings has produced some interesting photos reflecting on #prosopagnosia#faceblindness. The disrupted images left me feeling thrown off balance & frustrated by the missing information. Mmm - much like living with face blindness! https://t.co/1GQtHazx9e
In press #JEPGeneral: Gender Biases in Impressions from Faces👩👨🔍
We found:
(1) women are judged negatively to the extent their looks don't conform to expectations.
(2) this is because facial info is evaluated differently across genders (not bc diff info is used btw genders).
Speaking at pint of science tonight! Hope everyone has already gotten their tickets! Tonight is all about exploring how technology interacts with agriculture, the speculation surrounding AI, and how face perception shapes our lives.
