Those of you who live in Northern Ireland: I would love to hear your views on the Northern Ireland Curriculum to inform the review.
Please visit https://t.co/01TGo6niyV for more information. Thanks.
@Mr_Raichura A quick google search: https://t.co/VWYCwDMfy0
There is real joy in this class, and it seems a relaxed, stimulating but focussed environment and true autonomy for the pupils.
@Domsball@deptinfra@belfastcyclecam@CyclingUK_NI@SustransNI Seconded. Let’s see the equiv. video from Antrim Rd to city centre/Sth. Belfast. Far too dangerous. I’m a confident cyclist but gave up trying to cycle: too many near death experiences. Antrim Rd wide enough for protected cycle lane. Buses/trains **far** too expensive @deptinfra
The latest @educationgovuk Initial Teacher Training census shows progress, with physics teacher recruitment rising from 17% in 2023 to 30% in 2024 of the government's target. However, we're still lagging behind biology (119%) and chemistry (62%).
With a shortage of 3,500 physics teachers, we urgently need a plan to recruit, retrain, and retain more specialists.

Further excellent @IOP_Ireland meetings with Executive Office ministers @aislingreillysf + @PamCameronDUP discussing the huge potential of physics in Northern Ireland, then education committee chair @NIACfEd@NickDMathison who agrees the need to look at physics teacher shortage
An excellent start to the day at the @niassembly with education minister @paulgivan with the @IOP_Ireland team outlining the challenges of getting more kids to study physics and tackling the shortage of physics teachers. #IOPLimitLess
Delighted that my group’s fundamental research will continue via a new ERC Consolidator Grant award “ANTIMATTER”. Thanks to @ERC_Research, and those who spent time reviewing etc. @QUBelfast@QUBMathsPhys@IOP_Ireland
📢 Results of the 2024 ERC Consolidator Grant competition are out.
€678 million for 328 researchers.
Who won funding?
What will they investigate?
Where will they conduct their research?

A very useful and productive day discussing & developing Northern Ireland strategy for physics (and science) with NI Education Minister, the Junior Ministers, and education committee, NI Chief Scientific & Tech Adviser etc. @IOP_Ireland@QUBelfast@PhysicsNews
Half way through an excellent visit to Northern Ireland with @PhysicsNews. An early start for the IOP team at the @niassembly with a packed day of meetings
A new national network of total-body PET scanners will support researchers to detect and treat diseases earlier.
The first scanner was officially unveiled yesterday by Peter Kyle and Wes Streeting at St Thomas’ Hospital.

Today, @RoySocChem shared insights from a survey of 1,500 science teachers, revealing:
🧪 72% say the curriculum is 'overloaded'
🌍 29% believe it’s 'out of date/irrelevant'
📚 81% of students want more focus on climate change and sustainability
Together with @RoySocChem and @RoyalSocBio, we’re calling for a science curriculum that inspires students, reflects today’s science, and prepares them for STEM careers.

Save the date: The 2025 Ireland Spring Conference takes place over 2 days in Galway: Friday 28 Feb- Sat 1 Mar. Expect to hear from range of exciting speakers & annual Rosse Medal Science Communication competition. Registration & further detail in early Dec. #Physics#Ireland
@idamaho I am involved in the work, though they have done the hard work on coupled cluster so far. It’s computationally challenging (understatement). I hope to visit NTNU in near future (2025) to take it up. I’ll liaise with you too before I make any plans!
