You don't get opportunities for normal people like this in a country with organized labor, where the goal is to create shared interest among workers by making sure no one is too productive or successful.

Look at something like the idea that workers should have predictable schedules, something JD Vance is very angry about in his book. Sounds good in theory. But businesses want flexible hours for a reason. "Labor rights" create a thousand of these little rules that sound good in theory and in practice make everyone poorer and destroy people's opportunities to improve their lives.
