In the Cabinet Committee meeting on Political Affairs held today under the leadership of our Hon PM Thiru @narendramodi avl, a strong message of commitment to social equality and the rights of every section was conveyed by deciding to include caste enumeration in the forthcoming census.

In 2011, the Congress-led UPA government commissioned a Socio-Economic and Caste Census (SECC). ₹4893.6 crore of taxpayers' money was spent. In Dec 2013, Congress claimed that 99.3% of the enumeration was completed. But a month later, in Jan 2014, they refused to publish the data, citing "no internal consensus."

The truth is that the caste census reported 46 lakh castes in India, but in reality, only 4147 castes are officially recognised by the Government.

This wasn’t just poor execution; it was politically motivated data manipulation. ₹4893.6 crore was spent, and not a single usable statistic emerged from the three-year-long exercise.

It's the same story in Tamil Nadu. In 2020, the AIADMK Govt established the Kulasekaran Commission to conduct a caste survey. By June 2021, the commission requested an additional six months to complete the task assigned. But the newly elected DMK Govt refused.

All parties in the I.N.D.I. Alliance has always used caste to divide, not empower, and today's decision of our Hon. PM Thiru @narendramodi avl will strengthen the country's socio economic foundations while continuing on its path of development.

Also, interacted with the beneficiaries of the initiative and listened to how it has helped them in accessing quality medicines at affordable prices.
