@IndieGameJoe Pixel art Survivor Shump where you fight off waves of enemies, multiple pilot and ships combinations and a Starfox 64 inspired stage map - called Giant Enemy Robot Crabs.
This indie dev(me) is making a pixel art Survivor Shump where you fight off waves of enemies, many of which are crabs - Shoot, Destroy, Power up - Multiple pilot and ships combinations and a Starfox 64 inspired stage map - called Giant Enemy Robot Crabs. Would you play this?
As a kid i played a lot of Gradius, but i wasn't very good so i always used the Konami code. As an adult i can bake that right into the gameplay from the start.
@jogamedev Part of me wants to avoid marketing at all just to see how much traction is possible without it, although i have to consider my game might just not be very good in the first place.
@BeanJuiceStudio I'm skeptical of using social media, with my current game i'm betting on steam fests being where i get any traction and just spending my time making it as good as i can before that.
@LarryBundyJr The 3D Zelda games feel like the closest to me, like OoT, MM, windwaker, etc. All seem like they check a lot of boxes i imagine a 3D metroidvania should check, except for things EXP and loot drops of course.
@SkunkDev I wonder though many of those games that made around 100k actually made back their return on investment. If i spent over a year, and even minimal contracting 100k in sales would leave me with less than minimum wage in my bank.
In Giant Enemy Robot Crabs there will be a boss that is crabs in a bucket. The crabs will also have physics and dangle. Crabs will fly out the bucket and attack the player. You can also hit the weak point for massive damage.
Durability is a such an interesting example of an excellent concept in terms of game design that allows for a variety of interesting weapons or gear that can be easily balanced.
But also gamers hate it with a passion.
@ArturSmiarowski I agree in terms of being successful as an indie. But I think there is also a lot of benefit to finishing a small scale project in terms of learning before starting the big project.
@BastiArtGames There doesn’t seem to be any solid hook in terms of story or gameplay. Pixel art is pretty, but there wasn’t anything that made me want to play this game over any other decently made metroidvania.
