🚨Lifesaving Miracle at Osmania General Hospital🏥

Osmania General Hospital team did “Lifesaving Emergency Liver Transplantation” for 17 yr girl under ‘Super Urgent category’ in Jeevandan - thanks to the visionary leadership of Hon’ble CM Shri A. @revanth_anumula and the swift action of the Telangana Government.

This is the first time, a poor patient benefited in Government hospital under such super urgent category in India.

A 17-year girl, Miss Blessy Goud D/O Mrs Kavya resident of Film Nagar, Hyderabad came to Osmania General Hospital with serious and critical condition (Gasping state). She was admitted in Surgical #Gastroenterology ICU with Acute Fulminant Liver Failure on 12/05/2025. she was Intubated and connected to ventilator because of grade 4 Hepatic encephalopathy/ Coma. She gives history of fever of 5 days duration with jaundice. Initially shown to private hospital but came to Osmania because of worsening of her medical condition and financial constraints.

She was having deep jaundice (Serum bilirubin was 23 mg/dl), coagulopathy (blood was not clotting) with INR 11, Lactate 7.3(metabolic acidosis) and Grade 4 Hepatic encephalopathy. No history of liver disease or symptoms. She was fulfilling Kings college criteria for emergency Liver Transplantation.

Thought of doing Living Donor Liver Transplantation but they don’t have any fit donor in their family. No other siblings and having single parent. Her mother is working has tailor and suffering with medical problem. She needs urgent liver transplantation within 48 hours otherwise she will die.

In general, if you register for cadaver Liver organ in Jeevan dan in elective list it will take longer time due to high waiting list. There is no definitive liver dialysis for such acute fulminant liver failure patients said by Dr CH. Madhusudhan Professor and head of the department of SGE department at OGH, @Hyderabad.

In countries like #USA (UNOS), #UK and #EUROPE are having priority for such cases under super urgent category. In our country (Notto) and in our state (Jeevandan) also having such super urgent category allocation policy / Lifesaving liver allocation policy for Acute Fulminant Liver Failure cases.

Under this category whenever jeevandan receives “Super Urgent Category” request from treating hospital with supporting documents/investigations it will be reviewed by Liver expert committee and gives approval for Cadaver Liver Allocation. Within 48 hours, wherever or which ever hospital is having brain dead donor such patient’s liver will be preferentially allocated to super urgent category patient as life saving measure.

First time in the history of government hospital, we did Emergency Liver Transplantation for Acute Fulminant Liver Failure under super urgent category with the help of Jeevandan. It is a really very challenging surgery to operate such sick patient for 20 hours in the government hospital that too in a short period of time. We have got organ allocation within 24 hrs from the jeevandan. Brain dead donor was from other private / corporate hospital. We did liver Transplantation on 14/05/2025.

Patient was recovered very well and discharged in fit condition after 2 weeks. Now she is writing her B tech first year exams. We all felt very happy in helping such dying patient. We are so much thankful to Government of Telangana (CM, HM and Health secretary) and Jeevandan for helping us in time. We are sincerely thankful to DME sir (chairman Jeevandan), Dr Sri Bhushan Raju (in charge Jeevandan) ,Arogya sree office, Superintendent of OGH and principal of OMC, Doctors, nuses and staff for providing timely support for this surgery.
