An administration can say one thing to try and save face, but the truth rises.

People are at their breaking point, and of course, why wouldn’t they be? Aren’t we all exhausted? Haven’t we all had enough? So many things have brought us here to this moment, where for so many our country is unrecognizable. People are on edge. They are afraid. Life changes in a second. Renee Nicole Good’s family and friends know this truth. There is no going back, only forward.

My fellow citizens: keep your eyes on the truth. Don’t get confused by conflicting stories designed to confuse you. Keep your mind on the facts. Keep trying to rise above.

Keep trying to move humanity out of the darkness and into the light. It’s a new year. We all have to go forward, one step at a time, remembering those we have lost and loved, determined to make life better for those left behind. It’s our job not to give up or in, no matter the foe, be it our own government, be it cancer, be it gun violence, be it a death of someone you love.

Spoke on background with two attorneys who have defended officer involved shootings.

Both have always taken their cases to trial.

After reviewing the events today, both said if it were their client they’d advise:

-Seek a plea deal
-Be willing to plead guilty to a lesser crime or a lower sentence
-Accept anything that isn’t de jure LWOP (life with out parole)

In other words, the guys who defend police officers shooting for a living, think this case is unwinnable.

They would try to defend his actions, they’d just try and lower the impact of the outcome.

Their main sticking point were:

-“I could argue shot number one and hope for an acquittal or a hung jury - but I can’t get there on shots 2 and 3”

-“A jury will not get passed the turning of the wheels”

-“Denying medics throws self defense out the window”

US Marine Corps Colonel and combat veteran, Doug Krugman, "resigned from the military because of Trump," after 24 years of service.

He wrote in an op-ed in the Washington Post stating, and I quote:
"United States military officers take an oath to defend the Constitution without mental reservation or purpose of evasion. I swore or repeated that oath under five presidents, starting with former president Bill Clinton. I risked my life for it, serving as an infantry officer in two wars. I watched Marines die for it."

"No commander in chief is perfect. President Clinton’s moral failures are well known. President George W. Bush’s invasion of Iraq might be one of the worst errors in U.S. history. All recent presidents share responsibility for our failure in Afghanistan. I continued to serve despite all that because I believed the Constitution brought the country more success than failure, and I believed our presidents took their oaths to it seriously."

"With President Trump, I no longer believe that. During his first term, his actions became increasingly difficult for me to justify, culminating with the Jan. 6 attack on Congress as it tried to execute its duties. I hoped he had learned from those errors, but it only took a few days of his second term for me to realize he had not. I could not swear without reservation to follow a commander in chief who seemed so willing to disregard the Constitution."

"Worse than immorality, however, has been President Trump’s willingness to disregard the law and Constitution to achieve his goals. When asked in May about the Fifth Amendment requirements for due process and if he needed to uphold the Constitution as president, the first words out of his mouth were "'I don’t know.'"
