HR: We lost the new hire today.
CEO: What happened?
HR: He resigned after his first month.
CEO: That makes no sense. We doubled his previous salary.
HR: Yes, but salary was not the issue.
CEO: Then what was?
HR: He got bullied by one of our long-serving employees. When he reported it, the bully only became more emboldened.
CEO: His case was still on the table.
HR: He felt the company was protecting the bully by not acting quickly and also allowing her to act like she owns the workplace, wielding informal power.
CEO: But patience matters while we conduct a due investigation.
HR: So does urgency. He reported the case two weeks ago and tabled evidence. You have CCTV footage. New employees need to feel more welcomed than bullied. He felt left alone.
CEO: People should not rush to make their own conclusions.
HR: He did not rush to make any judgment. He simply could not withstand a workplace bully who seemed untouchable by management.
CEO: Still, he needed to wait for our investigation.
HR: That is exactly why he left. He realized very quickly that even with better pay, he was not ready to face a workplace tyrant while management watched.
CEO: That is unfortunate.
HR: Yes. We offered him double the salary, but also gave him a preview of a workplace where bullying was normalized and some employees appeared untouchable. Is that how we treat new employees?
CEO: So what are you saying?
HR: A higher salary can attract people. But if workplace bullies are allowed to act untouchable, no amount of money will make them stay.
If you were unfairly treated by your employer due to posting or liking something on this platform, we will fund your legal bill.

"Find out who did my booking, and fire him!" said a guy in front of us, speaking into his phone, at an @IndiGo6E FFWD counter in DEL last week.
@rshapoorjee and I looked at each other wondering what made this guy, clearly a business traveler, so angry.
