Abu Huraira (ra) narrated that his mother spoke ill of the Prophet (peace be upon him) when she was a polytheist.
Not much of a reason is provided for the resentment but my guess would be that her son dragged her half-way across the peninsula as they made hijra to Madinah.

Today I found a lil’ piece of my grandfather’s world an old 1982 Islamic journal, ماہنامہ محدث بنارس, edited by Shaykh Safi-ur-Rahman Mubarakpuri رحمه الله and published by ادارۃ البحوث الاسلامیہ، جامعہ سلفیہ، بنارس.
Fragile, damaged, and beautifully preserved by time.
Shaykh al-Allamah Ravi al-Madkhali رحمه الله said;
How ugly it is for a person to trust you and entrust you with their wealth, honour, or any of their rights, then you betray them.
(Majmū'-1/227)
Shaykh ʿAzīz Farḥān ḥafiẓahullāh
Some people today may be harsh on an issue when the people are not ready to receive it. They have lived in a certain environment and grown used to this thing, and it is new and sudden to them. So it is important that you first make yourself beloved to the people, and that they know who you are, so that they accept from you.
You find some good young men who love the Sunnah, and one of them imagines and pictures to himself that if he says his word, it is like the word of Shaykh al-Islām and the people will accept it in submission. No, that is wrong. You are still a hatchling. You need to let the people know who you are so that they accept from you, whether it is your household, your family, your group, your tribe, or your country. An environment has lived for years, for tens of years, on abandoning the Sunnah, and you come in one moment wanting to apply the Sunnah? That is not possible, it cannot be done. So make yourself beloved to the people, apply [the Sunnah yourself], and then afterwards mention the Sunnah, and do not argue over it.
Do you think Jannah comes easy?
Those before us were tested with trials that SHOOK THEM TO THEIR CORE, UNTIL EVEN THE PROPHET and the BELIEVERS CRIED, “𝗪𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗔𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗵’𝘀 𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗽 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲?”
Indeed, Allah’s help is always near.
True Repentance (التوبة)
Sh. Bin Bāz رحمه الله: If a person fulfills these 3 conditions then he is truthful in his repentance;
• Regret over the sin committed (الندم)
• Abstaining from committing bad deeds (الإقلاع)
• Firm resolve to not return to the sin (العزم)
