@aceplym The only reason "Reddit atheism" is as big and accepted as a seemingly valid laughing stock is because most people on earth are religious and can't deal with being confronted for their dumbass beliefs. People on the left have stupidly sided with religious idiots for fear of being
What happened is that leftist activists convinced themselves that politics is easy: Bernie Sanders’ resurgence led them to believe that all their issue preferences were wildly popular and it was just Democratic leadership standing in the way, a belief that built an organizing infrastructure more interested in primarying Democrats than winning competitive elections.
What they are hopefully learning (perhaps too late) is that governing is really hard. The reluctance to apply sustained focus on issues that are actually popular and support their natural Democratic allies has cost us all. On Democrats’ part, they falsely believed compromise with this wing of the party would yield strong allyship and electoral benefits that were never going to happen.
Trump IS worse. By EVERY conceivable metric. Unambiguously and by a margin so wide it would make the Grand Canyon blush.
That should be enough for yall. That it isn’t is the problem with “progressives” like you.
A loadbearing assumption behind all pro-space colonization arguments is that engineering problems are infinitely easier to solve than existing social, political, and environmental ones.
That might sound bafflingly wrong, especially from a leftist POV, but "solving" problems here on Earth requires the active cooperation of most individuals and institutions toward shared goals instead of the adversarial alignments that we encounter all around us.
People typically do not really want problems to be solved, or have no interest in participating in the solution, because they personally benefit from them not being solved, and nobody has convincingly offered alternatives to their present course which would satisfy their material and psychological needs. People do not want their enemies and rivals to benefit more than they do, if at all. Often this is "tall poppy" or "crab bucket" syndrome, though it can also a valid concern.
Countless millions and billions of competing actors shape the world system in which we live, a system which is not conventionally escapable by sailing to some far corner of the globe, and one which possesses a psychological and economic inertia which makes it almost impossible to move by oneself or even a handful of committed individuals.
Maybe you can convince others and build a movement if you have the charisma. A critical mass of people can move any needle, in theory. But there is always someone out there who's bigger, louder, who has better connections and deeper pockets and so on.
The odds are stacked against you. Though maybe you can beat them. But if you do, at best you're nominally in control of a machine too complex to fully understand, too complicated to modify without unraveling everything. So it's likely you end up doing nothing.
More likely, you're not that guy. In fact you're nowhere close to him.
Waiting for the next Caesar to come your way and fix everything is not a solution, much like how waiting for mankind to suddenly get its act together is not a solution.
So compared to all that, going to space is the least insane thing that you can do.
Or you can drop any pretense of idealism, accept that we live in a fallen world, and either embrace the grift or move on.
January 6th failed because the VP, senior Cabinet members, and, most importantly, the military, refused to go along with it. Trump replaced all those folks with incompetent sycophants for Round 2. Miley and Esper warned us in 2024, but not enough people paid attention.
You can't make a regular person hate A.I.
The average person doesn't care about artists, or writers, or the environment.
So tell your mom that her kids are gonna have AI p*rn made of them and it'll be legal. Tell your uncle their electric bill is gonna go up and it will be legal. Tell your bro that their water is gonna go bad and it will be legal. Tell your grandma she won't be able to breathe outside and it will be legal. Tell your sister they're gonna make deep fakes of her and use it to make her look racist and it will be legal. Tell your bestie they'll make fake n*des of her and it will be legal. Tell your father he'll be miscategorized as a felon on a google search and it will be legal.
Yes these are all things that have happened and can happen. So stop using the artist argument for regular people. Try these instead 🙏
Let's not pretend that "Jan 6 had no chance of succeeding."
If rioters had been successful in capturing or killing Mike Pence or Nancy Pelosi, January 6 would have been a completely different ballgame & Constitutional crisis.
I see “Millennials and Genz’s aren’t having Babies” is making the rounds again. To sum it up: Our planet is dying, no one is getting paid enough, there’s not adequate maternity leave, No one can afford hospital bills, most of us can’t afford a house. Like what did you think would happen?
Backlash??? It was the most disgusting comment a president has ever made. It was unAmerican and frankly should be enough for removal alone.
NO PRESIDENT SHOULD SAY SOMETHING LIKE THIS.
To what end, David?
Congrats… you won your seat running against the “establishment.” Threw mud all over the party. Now what?
Can you pass a bill by yourself? Nope.
Can you get your agenda through a Republican majority? Good luck.
Want to win the White House? To get to 270, you’re going to need some of those same folks you keep shitting on.
Run your own race. Tell folks where you disagree. But there’s a difference between that and telling everybody the whole damn party is worthless.
If you win, but other Democrats lose, who’s passing your agenda?!
It is the collective that makes things happen in our government and not the individual. You have to find a way to work with folks.
Otherwise you’re slashing the tires on the same damn bus you need to get somewhere. Make it make sense.
Bottomline- save the fights for the primary. Let’s all win in the general!
