ADC PCC Tackles Shettima Over Claim Tinubu Saved Nigeria From Collapse
The African Democratic Congress Presidential Campaign Council (ADCPCC) has taken a swipe at Vice President Kashim Shettimaâs claim that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu saved Nigeria from economic collapse, arguing that the current administration cannot disown the record of the All Progressives Congress (APC) government under former President Muhammadu Buhari.
The council said Shettimaâs assertion that Nigeria was heading towards âCaracasâ before Tinubu assumed office was an indictment of the Buhari administration, which, like the Tinubu government, was elected on the platform of the APC.
The reaction was contained in a statement issued on Sunday by the Director of Media and Publicity of the ADC Presidential Campaign Council, Kola Ologbondiyan.
Ologbondiyan said Shettima, in an attempt to defend what he described as the abysmal failures of the Tinubu administration, had resorted to rewriting the history of the APC.
He said if Nigeria was indeed heading towards economic collapse before Tinubu took office, as claimed by the Vice President, then the APC must accept responsibility for the situation because it controlled the Federal Government for eight years under Buhari.
âVice President Shettimaâs statement is self-indicting. If Nigeria was heading to Caracas under Buhari, it means Buhari and the APC deceived Nigerians for eight years.
âAnd if that is the case, why should Nigerians believe Tinubu, who is of the same APC stock and was a major promoter and defender of the Buhari administration?â Ologbondiyan queried.
He said the APC could not disown its own record, recalling that Tinubu had repeatedly defended the Buhari administration and assured Nigerians that his government would build on Buhariâs legacy.
According to him, the attempts by Tinubu and Shettima to distance the present administration from Buhari amount to an admission that the APC has failed Nigerians.
âBut Nigerians do not know Buhari as an individual; Nigerians know APC. It is the APC, on whose platform President Tinubu is seeking a second term, that has failed Nigerians for almost 12 years and is undeserving of another four years,â he said.
Ologbondiyan accused the APC government of failing across several sectors, citing the state of roads, electricity, public institutions and the rising cost of living.
He said the immediate concern of Nigerians was not political propaganda but access to affordable food and basic necessities.
âOur roads are no longer motorable, there is no electricity, our institutions have collapsed. But what concerns ordinary Nigerians today is food, food and food, not baseless propaganda.
âPresident Tinubu has not saved Nigeria from collapse; he has pushed the country deeper into economic ruin, marked by unprecedented hunger, hyperinflation, naira devaluation, insecurity, mass unemployment and excruciating cost of living,â he said.
The ADC campaign council spokesman further argued that Nigerians were already experiencing what Shettima described as the âCaracasâ scenario, not merely heading towards it.
âNigerians are not heading to Caracas; under the APC, Nigerians are already living the Caracas experience in their own country,â Ologbondiyan said.
He also faulted Shettimaâs promise to deploy 10,600 electric tricycles, 300 buses and electric taxis under an e-logistics programme âin the coming weeksâ, describing it as another promise that Nigerians should treat with caution.
Ologbondiyan reminded the Vice President of the administrationâs earlier promise that transportation costs would come down by October 1, 2026, asking Nigerians to judge the government by its delivery rather than fresh promises.
The ADCPCC urged Shettima and the APC to stop what it described as attempts to insult the sensibilities of Nigerians through revisionist narratives and instead acknowledge the challenges confronting the country.

ZULUMâS FRESH THREAT TO ARREST âTINUBU MUST GOâ PROTESTERS IS AN ASSAULT ON DEMOCRACY â ADC PCC
A viral video now circulating, in which Governor Babagana Zulum speaks in Hausa and orders the arrest and detention of anyone caught expressing âTinubu Must Go,â raises grave questions about his respect for citizensâ democratic rights.
This is especially troubling because Governor Zulum recently denied ordering the arrest of people wearing âTinubu Must Goâ T-shirts. He must explain the fresh video and reconcile its contents with that denial. Nigerians deserve clarity, not contradictory messages about whether peaceful critics will be arrested.
No governor has the authority to criminalise peaceful political opinion. A slogan, a T-shirt or a call for a president to leave office is not, by itself, a crime. Borno State is not a political detention centre, and its citizens must not be threatened into silence for opposing President Tinubu.
If the authorities have credible evidence of a separate offence, they should present it in court and allow due process to take its course. They must not use other allegations as a cover to punish citizens for their political views.
We call on Governor Zulum to withdraw any directive targeting peaceful protesters and to guarantee that no one will be arrested solely for expressing opposition to President Tinubu. A government confident in its record answers criticism with evidence and performanceânot threats of arrest and detention.

APCâS CRUEL MOCKERY OF AMAECHI CANNOT HIDE THE MISERY OF TINUBUâS NIGERIA â ADC PCC
Felix Morkaâs statement is a display of political cruelty, not an answer to Nigeriaâs problems. A motherâs death and a familyâs grief should never be turned into material for partisan ridicule. If Rotimi Amaechi says he struggled to afford his motherâs medication, the humane response is compassion. The political response is to ask why millions of Nigerians are also being priced out of medicines, food and basic necessities.
Morka calls Amaechi a loafer for struggling outside public office. That insult says more about the APCâs contempt for ordinary people than it says about Amaechi. Nigerians who cannot afford treatment, keep the lights on or travel safely on their roads are not loafers. They are citizens living through the consequences of a government that has failed them.
The reality is plain: the roads are bad, the economy is bad, electricity is bad, security is bad and the welfare of the people is bad. Tinubuâs name is increasingly associated with poverty, insecurity and hardship. No amount of mockery can make those conditions disappear.
Instead of sneering at Amaechi, Morka should explain why Nigerians face dangerous journeys on roads meant to connect communities and support trade. The roads in the East, the region he comes from, are in such a deplorable state that travelling on them feels like taking a route to Luciferâs kingdom. How many overturned trailers, near-collisions and desperate journeys must Nigerians endure before this government admits that the countryâs roads are in crisis?
The APC cannot boast about trillions in public spending while Nigerians lack safe roads, reliable electricity and affordable healthcare. It cannot blame one politicianâs personal circumstances for hardship being felt in homes across the country. The test of government is not how viciously its spokesmen can insult their opponents. It is whether people can live safely, afford treatment and earn a decent living. On that test, Tinubuâs government has failed.
Morka owes Nigerians an explanation for the governmentâs record. They owe Amaechiâs family the respect that grief deserves. And Nigerians owe themselves the resolve to make 2027 a turning point, so that the poverty and insecurity associated with Tinubuâs rule do not become the countryâs future.
