No to Privatisation of Banks
The Polit Bureau of the CPI(M) strongly opposes the Union Cabinet’s decision to sell 60.72% of IDBI Bank shares to Fairfax Financial Holdings, Canada—a blatant violation of RBI guidelines capping foreign voting rights at 26%.
The government must halt its plans to divest shares in public sector banks.

IDBI BANK PRIVATISATION: ECONOMIC REFORM OR A DEAL TO BENEFIT FAVOURED CORPORATES?????
Is the proposed privatisation of IDBI Bank really about economic reform, or is it about handing over a valuable public institution to private interests while the public bears the cost? Serious questions must be asked about whether public assets are being undervalued, whether corporate interests are being prioritised over public welfare, and whether political funding and corporate favouritism are influencing decisions. These concerns demand transparency, accountability and answers from the government.
It is deeply troubling to see some corporate voices and sections of the media portray the privatisation of IDBI Bank as an unquestionable economic reform, while largely ignoring its potential consequences for public assets, thousands of employees, social justice and the future of employees with disabilities.
A reform that fails to protect public wealth and the legitimate interests of employees must be subjected to serious public scrutiny. The government must explain how this proposed sale serves the interests of ordinary citizens, rather than merely benefiting the private buyer.

IDBI Bank’s profit has reached ₹9,513 crore, business has crossed ₹6 lakh crore, and NPAs have declined significantly. If the bank is thriving, why sell it? The nation deserves answers on valuation and public interest!
