Now that literally anyone can get GLP-1s via super drug and boots online, why can’t I prescribe it for my patients with idiopathic intracranial hypertension? A condition where severe patients need VP shunts to prevent blindness, and can be cured with >15% weight loss?
Part of job as senior drs is to train drs, not just in knowledge, but handling uncertainty, managing ethical/moral questions, what to do when lack of evidence, etc. seniors who don’t do this, either because of COIs, ‘irritated’ etc- it’s how a profession fails.
I’d like :
A computer that doesn’t take 10mins to switch on
An operating system that doesn’t crash 3-4 times a day
A system that alerts me when tests/referrals I’ve requested haven’t been done

A thread about consultants about giving feedback. 🧵
Consultants: Have you ever looked at feedback from rotating doctors - either end of rotation surveys or GMC survey data - that highlight a lack feedback in your department?
And thought ‘but I give feedback all the time?!’ 🤨
Every Doctor being gaslit by our own @NHSEngland is not what I expected for 2024
A Cancer specialist needs:
5-6 years Med school
2 Years foundation
2-3 years CMT or ACCS
Then MRCP
4-5 years Oncology training to CCT
Minimum 13 years
Fellowships mean 14-15 years training
“We should not play with patients’ lives.”
Devastating comments on @DHSCgovuk, @NHSEngland & @gmcuk’s willingness to let non-doctors - physician associates - perform potentially life-threatening surgeries.
This is a national scandal.
A patient safety debacle.
Just appalling.
Absolutely spot on from @DrLKVaughan & @mancunianmedic on @gmcuk's appallingly dumbed down vision for UK medical education.
Patients, doctors, med students, all health care workers - please read.
Just what on earth is our regulator playing at? 🤷♀️

Absolutely wrecking my 8 year old for not adequately releasing the lateral canthal ligament during an orbital compartment syndrome simulation. “Congrats sweetie, the patient’s blind.”
@DGlaucomflecken That’s what I tell children when they say they want to wait for the biopsy results before starting steroids for suspected giant cell arteritis. They’ve gotta learn somehow
One doctor takes their life every three weeks, @VictoriaAtkins.
How can you possibly countenance slashing psychological support services for a deeply traumatised post-Covid NHS workforce?
It’s pure vindictiveness.
Me: orders vancomycin for patient
Phone rings - Pharmacy: “Do you really want X dose for this patient?”
Me: “Absolutely not, I have no idea how to dose this medication, please change it to whatever you think is correct”
Such a shame. NHS practitioner health helped me recover and supported me back to work in the NHS. NHSE, look after your staff to help them look after our patients and families.
