@FingerBoardLies @diskoBiscuits @issyhowie ...travelling north/south on ball street between Kelham and Neepsend not along Green Ln. An element of a continuous footway is a raised section at the Jct mouth to retain grade over the junction but vehicles and cycles travelling through the junction experience a raised table
@diskoBiscuits @FingerBoardLies @issyhowie Worth noting a continuous pavement would benefit people on foot but create an obstacle to people on bikes on what is effectively a major cycle route.
@diskoBiscuits @FingerBoardLies @issyhowie Multiple factors. Cost will certainly play a part. As with crossings priority may be based on worst first. Ball St is not a through route so lower movements at the junction and less risk. Relatively low footfall may also be a consideration.
@FingerBoardLies @AlexiDimond@benmiskell Assuming there is no requirement for a TRO or RSA issues which become a much more costly process than just a bit of paint.
@FingerBoardLies One could argue that the scheme is a bit back to front in that there appears to be a lack of prioritisation for peds. Arguably more give way lines/methods of slowing cycles would reduce conflict between peds/cycles but ideally different modes should mix as little as possible.
@FingerBoardLies Road Safety Audit. It may be that SUDS and planting create visibility issues and therefore best practice for different users to slow and look though admittedly this applies to people in cars as well as on bikes or walking.
@edgeofstanage @FingerBoardLies Probably worth pointing out that this was a Regeneration scheme and an internationally recognized one at that. Let's not forget what the area used to look like. It may be that the design predates LTN1/20 and would be done slightly differently if delivered now.
@AlexiDimond @FingerBoardLies @benmiskell I suspect that the vehicles are parked on private land and may not be committing an offence unless proven to be driving on the footway. This may be very difficult to enforce.
@robpumphrey LTN1/20 standards mean provision for all modes is not feasible on all roads. Full segregation only possible where there is space. Alternatively traffic volumes and speeds reduced to negate the need e.g. SVCR. Some corridors must prioritise public transport/motor traffic.
@robpumphrey Existing painted lanes may cont to be maintained but any serious proposals put forward to @activetraveleng or @transportgovuk will be LTN1/20 compliant.
@edge_res@CycleSheffield@SheffCouncil@SheafVaHeritage Direct requests to [email protected]. This location was requested before the box was removed. Some space here is not not SCC highway. Care to be taken to avoid accessibility issues. Preventing pavement parking is a bonus if a stand retains access for wheelchairs.

@joraupa@CycleSheffield 2 stands added outside Hunters Bar primary. Further parking on Sharrow Vale Rd may require build-outs and Traffic Regulation Orders due to controlled parking zones and very limited footway widths. This significantly increases scheme costs.
@edge_res@joraupa@CycleSheffield Footway widths can limit space for wheelchair users, parents with pushchairs etc-particularly if cargo bikes are secured to new 'm' stands. Businesses may prefer space outside premises for seating or loading/unloading or simply not support the change.
