@Dylan28904944@MsSuh104 Even though I agree that political demonization isn't necessarily "new," I do believe that it has become more normal than it was since Donald Trump was elected for president.#SuhAPLang#APLangDiscussion
@lukeredmore @MsSuh104 I agree. People would bound to abuse this and reject a politician they don't like and it can also create an even greater divide if both sides are removing people with different political views. #SuhAPLang#APLangDiscussion
@MsSuh104 3.Soros proposes that politicians who undermine democracy should be rejected. The idea sounds ok, but I don't think it would help because anyone could exploit this and accuse a politician of undermining democracy because they have a different opinion.#suhaplang#APLangdiscussion
@MsSuh104 2. I agree that it has become a little too "normal" for political sides to spur hate and demonize the other side, but I don't really agree that this is new. People have always threatened and propagated fear and hate against opposing sides in politics. #suhaplang#aplangdiscussion
@MsSuh104 1. The tone of politics has become more aggressive since to election of president trump. While there have always been tensions between political parties, I think they have become more noticeable since Trump was elected. #suhaplang#aplangdiscussion
@TsifiraV I agree that our nation's focus on freedom and immigration is important, but it's risky and potentially dangerous to let any undocumented immigrant into the country, so I think that the police should cooperate with ICE if they believe that they should.#suhaplang#aplangdiscussion
@TomoyoshiKimur1@MsSuh104 I agree with what you say, but if you take away law enforcement's right to choose then it is no longer a sanctuary city because that is what distinguishes them from other cities. Are you saying that you think sanctuary cities shouldn't exist?#suhaplang#aplangdiscussion
@AbigailLink3@MsSuh104 I agree because the law enforcement needs to have immigrants' trust in order to maintain the public safety. If immigrants are afraid to call in crimes, that just causes more problems that the police can't help.#SuhAPLang#APLangDiscussion
@MsSuh104 3.For this law to work, local police must be able to make what choice they want without having to worry about the state cutting their funding, pushing them to do something they don't want to, especially since they can legally refuse to cooperate.#suhAPlang#APLangDiscussion
@MsSuh104 2.Drawbacks-If local police cooperate with ICE, immigrants won't feel safe enough to call the police when a crime occurs, threatening public safety. If they choose to not cooperate, the state may cut their funding, which is a lose lose sittuation. #suhAPlang#APLangDiscussion
@MsSuh104 2.Benefits- Sanctuary cities are a safe haven for immigrants. Law enforcers can refuse to cooperate with ICE, reducing immigrants' risk of being deported. They might also strengthen relationships between undocumented immigrants and law enforcement.#suhAPlang#APLangDiscussion
@MsSuh104 1. I had never heard of sanctuary cities before watching this video, and what was most interesting was that the local police in sanctuary cities are allowed to make the decision on whether or not an illegal immigrant will be deported.

@_mmichaylaa_@APSteinhauser I do agree that our generation has the potential to live in peace, but I don't really have any confidence that we will because there are always gonna be people who will let their fear of others peoples' differences get in the way of achieving peace.
#suhaplang#aplangdiscussion
@LathropKat I agree that any community, no matter what size, can be subject to hate crimes because of what you say and also because of the fact that hate can originate from anywhere, including small communities like ours.
#suhaplang#APLangdiscussion
@lukeredmore @MsSuh104 I agree that it's possible. However, as you said, only if we are aware of our biases and open to different communities and perspectives, and I don't think all of our generation will because some people still won't be able to see past those differences.#SuhAPLang#APLangDiscussion
@MsSuh104 4.I don't believe our generation can do this. I think there will always be those who will let their fear of people who are different cloud their ability to see how we are all similar and that we could live in peace if we just put our differences aside.#suhAPlang#APLangDiscussion
@MsSuh104 2. I don’t believe any community is completely safe from hate crimes. Hate and bigotry towards people who are different can come from anywhere and as the shooting at the Tree of Life demonstrated, hate crimes can occur in the most unlikely of places. #suhAPlang#APLangDiscussion
