We deeply regret the ratification today by the Libyan Parliament of the so-called Libyan-Türkiye Memorandum of Understanding on the delimitation of maritime jurisdictions in the Mediterranean Sea.

We recall that the EU’s position on this matter was clearly stated by the European Council in 2019 and remains unchanged. This agreement infringes upon the sovereign rights of third states, it does not comply with the Law of the Sea, and is null and void.

We reaffirm our solidarity with Greece and Cyprus.

We reiterate the EU's well known position against any outside interference in Libya.

🇨🇾🇬🇷🇪🇬 Energy, economic cooperation and security were among the key issues discussed at the Cyprus–Greece–Egypt Trilateral Summit between the President of the Republic of Cyprus, @PresidentCYP @Christodulides, the Prime Minister of the Hellenic Republic @PrimeministerGR, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, and the President of the Arab Republic of Egypt @AlsisiOfficial. The three leaders also exchanged views on regional and international developments and discussed ways to further advance cooperation in areas of common strategic interest. They reaffirmed the importance of the trilateral cooperation framework as an established mechanism for regional cooperation, contributing to stability, security and prosperity in the Eastern Mediterranean and the wider region.

Η αποδοχή από όλες τις πλευρές της σύγκλησης μιας διευρυμένης διάσκεψης, κάτι που δεν ήταν δεδομένο πριν από την κάθοδο του Γενικού Γραμματέα των Ηνωμένων Εθνών @antonioguterres στην Κύπρο, καθώς και η επιβεβαίωση ότι οι διαπραγματεύσεις θα προχωρήσουν στη βάση του διαπραγματευτικού κεκτημένου μέχρι το Κραν Μοντανά, αποτελούν τα βασικά αποτελέσματα των επαφών που πραγματοποιήθηκαν τις τελευταίες δύο ημέρες, σύμφωνα με τον Πρόεδρο της Δημοκρατίας @PresidentCYP @Christodulides. Παράλληλα, εξέφρασε την ικανοποίησή του για τη σαφή πολιτική δέσμευση του Γενικού Γραμματέα να συνεχίσει κάθε προσπάθεια για την επανέναρξη των συνομιλιών, στη βάση των ψηφισμάτων του Συμβουλίου Ασφαλείας των Ηνωμένων Εθνών και του διαπραγματευτικού κεκτημένου μέχρι το Κραν Μοντανά.

Ο Πρόεδρος σημείωσε ακόμη ότι, για πρώτη φορά μετά το Κραν Μοντανά, η συζήτηση επικεντρώθηκε στην ουσία του Κυπριακού, σε συγκεκριμένα θέματα και στις συγκλίσεις που έχουν επιτευχθεί, ενώ αναφέρθηκε και στον ενισχυμένο ρόλο της Ευρωπαϊκής Ένωσης, ο οποίος, κατέστη εφικτός μέσα από τις πρωτοβουλίες της Κυβέρνησης. Επανέλαβε την ετοιμότητα της Κυπριακής Δημοκρατίας για άμεση σύγκληση της διευρυμένης διάσκεψης, σημειώνοντας ότι η αναγκαία προεργασία πρέπει να προηγηθεί, ώστε να δημιουργηθούν οι προϋποθέσεις για ανακοίνωση της επανέναρξης των διαπραγματεύσεων.

Υπογράφηκε χθές, στο πλαίσιο της συνάντησης του Υπουργού Άμυνας, Βασίλη Πάλμα, με την Υπουργό Ενόπλων Δυνάμεων και Βετεράνων της Γαλλίας, Catherine Vautrin, Συμφωνία για Συνεργασία σε Αμυντικά Θέματα και το Καθεστώς των Δυνάμεων (Status of Forces Agreement- SOFA) Κύπρου και Γαλλίας.

Η Συμφωνία αυτή, η οποία αποτελεί συνέχεια της Συμφωνίας Στρατηγικής Εταιρικής Σχέσης Κύπρου – Γαλλίας, που υπογράφηκε τον περασμένο Δεκέμβριο στο Παρίσι από τους Προέδρους των δύο χωρών, συνιστά σημαντικό βήμα αναβάθμισης της συνεργασίας Κύπρου και Γαλλίας, καθώς μέσω αυτής θα καθορίζεται με σαφήνεια το καθεστώς του στρατιωτικού προσωπικού όταν βρίσκεται στο έδαφος, σε πλοία ή σε αεροσκάφη του υποδεχόμενου κράτους.

Μέσω της συμφωνίας προκύπτουν ουσιαστικά οφέλη σε επιχειρησιακό και πρακτικό επίπεδο, καθώς, μεταξύ άλλων, προβλέπονται διευκολύνσεις για τη μεταφορά δυνάμεων, απλοποιούνται οι διαδικασίες μετακίνησης του προσωπικού εντός των δύο χωρών, διασφαλίζεται η πρόσβαση σε υποδομές και ρυθμίζονται ζητήματα που αφορούν την υγειονομική περίθαλψη του στρατιωτικού προσωπικού και των οικογενειών τους.

Σε πολιτικό και γεωστρατηγικό επίπεδο, η εμβάθυνση της συνεργασίας με τη Γαλλία επιβεβαιώνει την προσήλωση της Κυπριακής Δημοκρατίας σε συμμαχίες που εδράζονται σε κοινές αρχές, στον σεβασμό του Διεθνούς Δικαίου και στην προώθηση της ασφάλειας και της σταθερότητας στην ευρύτερη περιοχή, ενισχύοντας τον ρόλο της ως πυλώνα σταθερότητας στην Ανατολική Μεσόγειο.
