@olsonplanner They’re taking a cue from doctoral/PhD dissertations…train them for independence - then keep them for a massive discount to work once they’re trained.

@jaygirimd @NIH I personally feel this. I was at a crossroad in my career when choosing a fellowship - do I try to pursue a lab career after fellowship or do I just do “clinical” research with NO lab. Needless to say the environment for young scientists was already tough - now we have this.

@NIH 15/ The incentive to pursue a career as a physician scientist and then work at an academic center could be impacted.

This is a long road with significant financial uncertainty and the policy may exacerbate this uncertainty.
