@DividendDrip They should just scrap the state pension for any new children born after a certain date and replace it with a lump sum that goes into an investment account at birth. The money can’t be touched until 18 and has to go into a fund of small cap UK companies.

[Dougie Invests @Dougie_Invests]

@rhysadams @DividendDrip You have to grind a game for a long time before you start getting decent payouts. It’s pennies at first.

[Dougie Invests @Dougie_Invests]

@Sausageland @fynnvestor Didn’t mean any offence 😂

[Dougie Invests @Dougie_Invests]

@DividendDrip Had the same decision to make. I ultimately decided to keep it in their name as It’s just far easier logistically. The main benefit of having it in my name would be over worries of wasting the money. But I can just chose not to tell them about it straight away if it gets to that.

@bmunckton @thfc_mugen Yeah I could just be being overly cautious, but these issues do happen more with online banks in general, not just Monzo. It can happen with any bank but generally these issues can be more quickly resolved when you can speak to someone on the phone, rather than a chat bot.

[Dougie Invests @Dougie_Invests]

@bmunckton @thfc_mugen For me it’s the customer service or lack there of. I’ve known of people getting money frozen as their anti fraud algorithms can be easily triggered, and it can be a pain to get it released. I use them but wouldn’t hold significant money in there, but that’s just me.

Knob heads like this is one of the reasons why it’s so hard to get tickets.

Bragging about it online as well.

Shows the sorry state of affairs of the UK economy for last few decades.

This hasn’t always been the case. The UK stock market actually used to track very closely to the US up until more recently.

FTSE 100, last 20 years: about 6.4% a year with dividends.

After inflation? Around 3.4%.

The S&P 500 has historically done 10 to 11% a year.

Home bias has a price. Brits pay it every year.

Another brilliant UK company being sold to foreign investors instead of being made public.

EXCLUSIVE: Monzo, the digital lender which has become one of Britain's biggest consumer banks, is in talks about a sale to Brazil's Nu Holdings which could value it at between £8bn and £10bn, ending the prospect of a near-term IPO of a UK fintech champion. https://t.co/V1IVOIJsLc

This is the way I see it.

Giving yourself say, 10% to play around with single stocks to try and beat the market is much more effective with larger capital.

Once you get to 100k the time and effort it takes to research companies properly then becomes worth the gains. IMO.

Anyone new to investing should ONLY do one thing

Open ISA (or similar tax efficient account)

Start accumulating low cost index fund (like S&P 500) till you reach £100,000

Once you there and have more knowledge and experience - you can decide if you want to add some individual stocks

@PensionCraft Why is $WLDS missing from the small caps at 0.35% TER?

[Dougie Invests @Dougie_Invests]

@JamesP728 @Trading212 What brokerage did you use before trading 212 James?

[Dougie Invests @Dougie_Invests]

@_LamNam_ That Nescafe stuff is really good for instant coffee to be fair. I’d have to disagree that a decent bean to cup machine will make much better coffee though. I’m a bit of a coffee snob though so I may be bias 😂

[Dougie Invests @Dougie_Invests]

@BradInv94 It will barely matter in the long run bro, don’t sweat it.

@yttberium @MazzaInvests Drinking alcohol is not. Plenty of people will get through that many across a full match.

[Dougie Invests @Dougie_Invests]

@yttberium @MazzaInvests Because going to the toilet is a basic human right? Can have a drink at half time, before and after the game. People aren’t getting up 4 or 5 times and game to get a hot dog are they.
