Having OA&OP is not uncommon. Patient partners are advocating for more research on this. It's challenging fighting against the grain when there's prominent belief OP and OA are mutually protective - both can be true. https://t.co/wOecuN7LRM @ArthritisSoc@UHN_Research@UT_CESHA
In time B4 EoY, our landmark paper on muscle fat segmentation using Python has been published in #SkeletalMuscle.
Our algorithm is open source, segments inter- and intra-muscular fat together from T1w/FSE/in-phase Dixon MRI at sub mm pixel resolution.

@AngelaMCheung@ASBMR@d_whittier@OsteoUHN@ASBMR@d_whittier@CIHR_IMHA I emailed the local transit TTC and found out we have a convention-only daily transit pass. https://t.co/wwamR6m6AR
It does have a $20 setup fee but buying a minimum of 40 tickets would make it worthwhile at $9.75 a day.. not sure if ASBMR setup sth
@hjluks We've seen associations between periarticular muscle adiposity like this and progressive knee symptoms in knee osteoarthritis patients. I bet they're on some heavy pain meds...
Even though sample was small, thx to COVID, the amount of effort and integrity that went into this felt more like a PhD... Thanks to @ArthritisSoc & @CIHR_IMHA for funding our work.
The relationship between periarticular muscle properties and knee pain... https://t.co/WPr9ObfqKA
Amazing publication by @_SiwenLiu now a MSc graduate. So much hard work coding in Py & SAS.
Really interesting work from @Emily_Ha2 on using latent constructs to estimate subchondral BMD. We donโt often see this kind of epi work at #IWOAI, very exciting! #IWOAI2023

Although we previously saw having higher muscle fat doesn't necessarily translate to poorer physical function, here we showed that when you close your eyes, balance appears to rely more on having lean muscles - perhaps as a failsafe? https://t.co/H0AGpjUxRM
Perhaps a similar "assistive" role for having lean muscles here, helping forces generated by muscle have a stronger impact on bone. Are we seeing a common theme? https://t.co/g9seTkXamo
Also noted : having self-reported osteoarthritis at any site was notably a consistent and significant correlate of falling 3 or more times compared with not having osteoarthritis, even after adjusting for muscle torque and density. @ArthritisSoc
