On 21.05.2026, officials from CSB–MESSO, P3 Unit, Kowabil conducted field visits to inspect the ongoing Muga rearing activities at ASR level in the Dingdinga and Anthaibari areas of Gossaigaon.

At Dingdinga Sericulture Farm, 750 g DFLs were reared, and cocoon harvest is currently in progress with an expected collection of around 12,850 cocoons. At Anthaibari, Sri Amit Roy reared 500 g DFLs, and mature worm collection is underway with an expected yield of 4,000–6,000 cocoons. Around 60% crop loss was reported due to heavy rain and storm.

The seed source for both rearings was from a private graineur of Boko. During the inspection, visible pebrine spots were observed on the larvae in both fields. Farmers were advised to stifle the cocoons for sale as reeling cocoons and undertake proper post-rearing field disinfection.

On 22.05.2026, officials from CSB–MESSO, P3 Unit, Kowabil conducted field visits to inspect the ongoing Muga rearing activities at private farmers’ fields in Chirang, Domgaon, and Bongaigaon areas of BTC, where 500 g, 800 g, and 500 g rearings were being carried out respectively.
The first lot was under brushing, the second lot was in the maturation stage, and the third lot was in the 3rd instar stage. The seed source for all the rearings was Shri Holiram Rabha of Boko, a private graineur.
During the inspection, uzi as well as pebrine infestation was observed at the rearing sites. Farmers were advised to follow precautionary measures and CSB SOPs strictly to minimize future crop loss.

Field Visit – Gossaigaon 🌿
On 23.04.2026, a field visit to ASR rearing at Gossaigaon was undertaken by P3 Kowabil staff.

The collection commenced on 20.04.2026, with an expected yield of over 30,000 cocoons. The seed source for the rearing was P3 Kowabil.

During the visit, larvae were observed to be uniform and robust, with no visible symptoms of pebrine infection. Larval and excreta samples were collected for further microscopic examination to ensure disease-free status and maintain quality standards.

Field Visit – Muga Rearing Inspection 🌿
On 18.04.2026, a Scientist-B from CSB–MESSO, P3 Unit, Kowabil (BTC) conducted a field visit to inspect ongoing Muga rearing at Mongoldoi, Darrang, and Buragharh farms.

At Mongoldoi, 500 g rearing has reached the mature stage with worm collection underway and an expected yield of over 50,000. At Darrang, multiple rearings (500 g, 800 g, and 1300 g) are in the collection stage with promising yield expectations. At Buragharh, rearings of 500 g and 1500 g are in the 3rd instar stage.

Larvae were observed to be healthy, uniform, and robust. Seed sources were procured from private graineurs of Dhemaji. Samples have been collected for further examination, and a detailed report will follow.

आज (17.03.2026) पी3 कोकाबिल द्वारा ओएलआईसी समिति की बैठक तथा “कार्यालय में प्रभावी हिन्दी लेखन व संप्रेषण” विषय पर हिन्दी कार्यशाला का आयोजन किया गया। इस अवसर पर बीटीसी, कोकराझार के खेल विभाग की हिन्दी अनुभाग अधिकारी, सुश्री मौरिया भौमिक, मुख्य अतिथि के रूप में आमंत्रित थीं।
बैठक के दौरान केंद्रीय कार्यालय द्वारा जारी राजभाषा हिन्दी कार्यान्वयन से संबंधित जाँच बिंदुओं को प्रतिभागियों के बीच वितरित किया गया।
कार्यक्रम का समापन मुख्य अतिथि एवं प्रतिभागियों के बीच सार्थक चर्चा के साथ हुआ।

Her poster titled “Cricula trifenestrata Helfer: An Additional Wild Silk Source for India – Exploring New Horizons of Vanya Silks” highlights the potential of Cricula trifenestrata as an additional wild silk source in India and its suitability as a spun-silk resource for blending with Muga and other natural silks.

Scientist from CSB MESSO P3 Unit, Kowabil, Kokrajhar, BTC, Assam visited the ASR field at Bajali Sericulture Farm on 30.01.2026 for crop inspection and technical guidance on brushing and scientific Muga rearing.
With 74 bighas of Som plantation and a pollution-free environment, the farm is well suited for sustainable Muga rearing by local farmers.

5-day CBT program was successfully concluded on 24.01.2026 at the P3 Unit, Kowabil, with certificate distribution among the participants in the presence of Smt. Tunu Brahma, Extension Officer, DoS Adabri, and Smt. Sandhaya Rani, Sericulture Demonstrator, Kowabil.
During the five-day training, 25 farmers were imparted both theoretical & hands-on practical knowledge through field-based exercises on Muga silkworm rearing, brushing and handling of mature worms, transfer of worms, pre-and post-disinfection of rearing fields, selection of suitable host plants for successive instars, disease & pest management practices, host plant maintenance, & grainage practices.
To further strengthen the knowledge of the participants, a trilingual technical booklet on Pest Management in Muga Sericulture was released and distributed among them. @csbmot @TexMinIndia

A 5-day CBT Program for ASR was inaugurated on 20.01.2026 at CSB P3, Kowabil by Shri Anjan Chakraborty, Director of Sericulture, BTC, Kokrajhar, and Smt. Ruben Roy, Village Head, Bijulibari.
The program features hands-on training on Muga silkworm rearing & host plant management, complemented by practical demonstrations. A technical booklet on Muga pest management was also released to strengthen scientific practices.

Day 5 of the Induction Training Programme of Newly Recruited Scientists (Batch III), the participants undertook an exposure visit to the Wild Muga Range in the Raimona forest area, Kokrajhar, to gain first-hand understanding of the primary, secondary and tertiary host plants of the Muga silkworm.
Subsequently, the trainees visited the Eri Silk Village at Mothambil, Gossaigaon, and interacted with progressive Eri farmers engaged in active Eri rearing at Bongshigaon and Kashibari villages of the Gossaigaon Sericulture Circle, under the Directorate of Sericulture, Adabri, Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC), Kokrajhar.
The visit was attended by Shri Zakir Hussain, Assistant Manager, and Shri Ranjit Brahma, SD, Gossaigaon, as State representatives.
The exposure visit was led by Shri Mahashankar Majumdar, Scientist–C, CSB–MESSO, P4 Mendhipathar, along with Dr. Suraksha Chanotra, Scientist–B, CSB–MESSO, P3 Kowabil, and Dr. Ravikumara R., Scientist–B, CSB–MESSO, P3 Kobulong.

Day 4 of the Induction Training featured an enriching field visit to Kokrajhar, Bodoland — the winter rearing hub for muga silk.
🔹 The programme included a visit to CSB MESSO P3 Kowabil, providing hands-on exposure to muga rearing practices in MESSO units.
🔹 Interaction with MESSO seed unit scientists enabled in-depth discussions on field-level challenges and practical solutions.
🔹 Participants were exposed to facilities at Bodoland Silk Park, Kokrajhar, DoS, BTC.
🔹 A visit to the Eri Spun Mill offered insights into post-cocoon processing and value addition.
The field visit was mentored by Shri Mahashankar Majumdar, Scientist-C, P4 Mendipathar, Meghalaya; Dr. Suraksha Chanotra, Scientist-B, CSB P3 Kowabil, BTC; and Dr. Ravikumara R., Scientist-B, P3 Kobulong, Nagaland, who shared valuable practical insights and field experiences with the trainees.
The exposure strengthened participants’ understanding of integrated seed production systems, rearing technologies, and post-cocoon linkages, reinforcing the importance of field-oriented learning in sericulture research and extension.@csbmot @TexMinIndia
